JOB SUMMARY: Supervises assigned art directors and develops, creates, and executes communications strategies and tactics for assigned clients. By applying technical product and industry knowledge, supervisory and creative skills, develops effective product advertising and brand positioning for products assigned and persuasively and effectively presents the creative work. Execution must be of high impact, cost-effective, of the highest quality, and completed within the time frame agreed to by client and agency. Pacific Communications is the largest full service provider of medical communications on the West Coast, specializing in marketing strategy development and planning, medical communications and education, branding, advertising, and promotion. This includes launching many new products and technologies, with a global reach. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: % of Time or Importance 1. Concept Development Conceives, develops and directs the graphic execution of advertising and promotional campaigns for a wide variety of company products and services. Independently analyzes marketing strategy. Working together with Copywriter, determines and develops or reinforces an existing brand image for each product, so that competitive advantage and Allergan's leadership position are maintained. Prepares and presents concept sketches and comprehensive graphic layouts for creative and marketing management approvals. 40% 2. Quality Control Manages photographic sessions by directing photographers and models. Negotiates price within budgets. Interviews, selects and supervises outside vendors to ensure that all materials are of the highest quality, meet stated objectives and are completed in a timely manner. Periodically reviews vendor list and adds or deletes suppliers as necessary to maintain quality standards. 25% 3. Project Management Manages several projects simultaneously and sets priorities to facilitate timely completion. Maintains dialogue with advertising production supervisor and account services staff to keep abreast of status of works-in-progress. Supervises efforts of Art Director to assure successful graphic execution of advertising strategy and adherence to agency creative standards. Works with client's field sales representatives as directed by supervisor. 25% 4. Department Management Acts as backup for Creative Director (or Associate Creative Director) as needed to continue smooth operations of the art department and the successful execution of creative objectives. 10% Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education and Experience Education or experience equivalent to art or design school graduate. A minimum of four years agency art direction experience. Possesses a thorough understanding of product lines, their features and benefits, marketing objectives, and the competitive environment in order to contribute significantly to the art/copy creative team.
