How will you make an impact?
The role will have a primary focus on backing up and protecting the data at Thermo Fisher Scientific. They will perform backup configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting tasks for a global, multi-site, multi-vendor storage and data protection infrastructure.
What will you do?
- Performing backup configuration, maintenance and troubleshooting tasks for a multi-site multi-vendor backup infrastructure
- Performs the installation, configuration, maintenance, and documentation for various backup technologies
- Develop, implement, and oversee policies and procedures to ensure consistent backup and recovery processes, uptime, and regulatory compliance
- Develop and maintain testing process for current, new, and modified backup appliances and software
- Participate in recovery testing to ensure we can recover application and databases from backups
- Provide on call support within a “follow the sun” model, as well as in rotation during weekends
How will you get here?
- Combined minimum of 5 years’ higher education and/or work experience in systems support, and maintenance
- 2-3 years of experience in working with business partners in identifying their requirements, and designing and/or implementing optimal technical solutions
- Comprehensive understanding of IT processes and best practices related to backup and recovery
- Advanced knowledge of data protection appliances or software (e.g. Data Domain, Avamar, Veeam, CPM)
- Knowledgeable in VMware, Windows and Linux operating systems
- Experience in scripting (PowerShell, batch, shell, etc.) to automate the backup services
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Capable of working on multiple projects of a complex nature
- Complete understanding of the system development life cycle
- Excellent problem-solving skills to assist in issue resolution
- Excellent verbal/written communication, analytical, and decision-making skills
- Must be a self-starter with high level thorough documentation abilities
