 Principal Accountabilities:
 

  1. To set up, properly operate, troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance on the Krones labelers and Kister case packers/wrappers.
  2. To properly label and case the cooked product cans after they exit the hydro.
  3. To inspect the finished product for cans that are clean, free of dents and correctly coded with properly sealed lids.  Labels that are properly affixed to the cans with the correct printing and color.  Product that has the proper look, texture, color, noticeable ingredients, gravy, core shrinkage and temperature.  Finished cased/shrink wrapped product whose cases have the proper coding and integrity.
  4. To place on hold any product that does not meet the proper quality standards.
  5. To break down and clean the Krone labelers and the Kister case packers.
  6. To help insure new associates in the area receive proper skills and safety training.
  7. Can perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  8. Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes such as hot and cold, dust, dirt and chemicals.
  9. Able to complete all tasks in the area assigned by manager abiding by the Quality Practices and Mars Safety Practices.
  10. Investigate and implement ways to minimize waste in the area.
  11. Every associate at Mars has responsibility for quality and food safety.

 

Mission Critical Competencies:

 

  •     Ability to evaluate the quality of the product, the can seam, the labels        and the finished package.
  •     Able to gather and analyze all of the information necessary to properly resolve problems in a timely manner.
  •     Able to effectively troubleshoot, adjust and perform preventative maintenance on the equipment.
  •     Excellent interpersonal skills (talking, listening, dealing appropriately in a pressure situations) with the ability to communicate with the Line Manager, Operations Management, Engineering, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, Central Mixing, Sterilizing, Packaging, and the Lid Feed associates.
  •     Able to effectively and efficiently operate within a self directed team with very little supervision.
  •     The ability to operate a forklift and hand tools.
  •     Able to complete all tasks in the area as assigned by manager abiding by the Mars Safety and Quality Practices.
  •     Each associate is responsible to complying to the Mars Petcare quality and food safety policies, procedures, QMP and other auditable quality, food safety and regulatory standards in order to ensure a safe and quality product intended to delight the customer.
  •     Obtain certification from the FDA Better Processing Control course within one year of accepting the position.

 

Key Functional Skills/Knowledge:

 

  • The ability to operate the Krones labelling and Kister packaging equipment.
  • The ability to completely evaluate the product and packaging before it ships to the warehouse or customer.
  • The ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos.  The ability to write correspondence.
  • The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  The ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages and to interpret graphs.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with managers and co-workers.
  • The ability to perform changeovers in an efficient manner.
  • The ability to perform the necessary preventive maintenance and emergency troubleshooting on various pieces of labelling and packaging equipment.
  • The ability to write a planned, unplanned and safety work orders.

 

The primary qualifications of this position are:

  1. Most recent Performance appraisal with a minimum of “Meets” expectations and not more than 1 year old.
  2. No active caution notices.
  3. Acceptable attendance.
  4. Physical requirements: Ability to perform all needed physical activities without restrictions. (Maximum of 50 pounds lifting.)
  5. A current certification to operate a forklift or the ability to certify prior to start-up.
