POSITION SUMMARY
 
The Director of Global Transportation will assume full management and P&L responsibility for the strategic and operational functions of the Global Transportation Operations department for Patheon Logistics clients; proactive leadership of operational excellence through cross-functional business process improvement activities while building relationships & trust with clients and creating a culture of employee engagement.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
Utilizing your understanding of export and import regulations you will have full management and P&L responsibility for the strategic and operational functions of the Global Transportation Operations department which includes International and Domestic Speciality Freight Forwarding, Premium Courier, Clinical Trials, and Linehaul services.You will direct the global team of Logistics Specialists in their efforts to spot quote, determine and execute routings, ensuring accurate and timely updates to Patheon Logistics systems, while building carrier and subcontractor relationships throughout the globe. You will support carrier negotiations for final mile, LTL, and air and expedited carriers as well as ensure timely billing and payment of international/ domestic vendors and customers for the transportation service lines. You will build strategic relationships with customer counterparts, work to understand their strategy & needs, translate customer strategy into meaningful business opportunities in parallel with your staff and the Patheon Logistics sales team.Additional responsibilities include:
 
 

  • Development and management of processes, procedures and service metrics
  • Establish clear priorities for area of responsibility and quality programs in support of organizational and strategic objectives and reprioritizing as necessary to meet objectives
  • Identify needs for technology, work with IT to design technological solutions and integration requirements and lead the implementation of new technology and processes to support the transportation network
  • Facilitate Patheon Logistics’ performance measurement and reporting systems
  • Ensure staffing levels meet optimal production levels and cost savings
  • Ensure with any startup endeavor that the services proposed are the best blend of efficiency, cost-effectiveness and outstanding service levels
  • Review measures according to established schedules
  • Report Critical Measures to Executive Team weekly
  • Conduct Monthly reviews with Executive Management to ensure profitability targets are met
  • Manage global transportation network that provides a competitive cost structure, while exceeding customer services expectations
  • Provide yearly analysis of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of competitors, clients and the ever-changing industry consistent with the strategic planning process and target dates
  • Collaborates with senior staff on the strategic direction for PATHEON LOGISTICS 
  • Provide Quarterly Strategic Plan Implementation Reviews and offer recommendations for change as the year progresses
  • Partner with finance to develop forecasted profitability analysis for any new business endeavor and manage to the profitability targets established
  • Identify profitability issues and propose resolutions to Management 
  • Review project proposals to determine goals, time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of resources
  • Ensures that all project plans are complete in that they have specific goals, strategy, staffing, scheduling, identification of risks, contingency plans, and allocation of available resources
  • Assess and/or advise management on Priority’s development and compliance with critical standard operating procedures, training and documentation systems in accordance with cGMP, GDP, PDMA and client and/or industry standards
  • Maintain a working knowledge of government and industry quality codes and standards
  • Participate in client quality audits and manage corrective actions given to completion with process owners
  • Update and/or create international customer tariffs, tenders and guidelines for spot quoting.
  • Ensure audit of international transactions and vendors for compliance and accuracy
  • Review department training needs to comply with governmental law and company compliance internationally. 
  • Lead global network development initiatives, drive strategic partnerships with partner service providers.
 
 
Qualifications:
 
  • University degree (12+ years’ experience with Bachelor's degree; or 10+ years with a Master’s degree; logistics    discipline preferred.)
  • 5 to 7 Years work experience in domestic and international transportation across all modes, experience in Pricing, Routing & Design a plus
  • 7 to 10 Years work experience in Transportation & Logistics environment required, P&L experience a plus
  • Experience in the Life Science and Healthcare industry preferred, ideally with a supply chain & specialty transportation focus on Pharma
 
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Exceptional understanding of the Pharma industry & supply chain needs strongly preferred
  • Experience with Cold Chain and Specialty Transportation Products is a plus
  • P & L Management
  • Excellent knowledge of all available logistics services & distribution products
  • Good business knowledge of the logistics market and the future direction of this market
  • Business understanding of total supply chain/distribution/logistics concepts and ideas
  • Direct client facing experience
  • Proven ability to lead a team
  • Ability to work independently while following team goals
  • Results focused
  • Excellent analytics skills, with experience in Microsoft applications to support those efforts
  • Creativity and ability to develop novel ideas and solutions
