Job Description

The Director of Finance - South Region will direct and support property financial leaders in achieving high levels of performance and value creation through activities of the operations finance group. This role will provide tactical support to the Vice President of Finance and act as a strong finance business partner to the Vice President of Operations and the regional support team. He / she will have a proactive involvement with the finance operations team, monitoring the progress of hotels in achieving the organization’s stated goals as well as proactive owner relations.

The Director of Finance – South Region will plan, organize and direct corrective actions to be taken as a result of the financial leadership benchmarking and score-carding. This role’s responsibilities will include direct overseeing of property level financial leaders on a tactical basis to maximize performance. He / she will provide leadership, insight and vision to property financial leaders regarding their control environment, business processes and talent management.

What will I be doing?

As Director of Finance – South Region, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards:

  • Analyze Operations Finance programs and measure them against corporate benchmarks as well as industry standards.
  • Devise, communicate and execute strategies and directions for the Operations Finance group, evaluating efforts to ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the property level organization.
  • Implement plans for identified business process opportunities for property level finance and direct accordingly.
  • Develop an execution plan to implement long term goals for the Operations Finance department that becomes the basis for short term goals and annual operational planning.
  • Develop the appropriate objectives for the business and direct the methodologies by which those objectives are going to be accomplished.
  • Establish procedures and processes in relation to Operations Finance.
  • Consolidate monthly property financial leadership scorecards for the Operations Finance group and properties, making corrections where necessary.
  • Interact with the senior management of hotel operations, property General Managers and Directors of Finance, with respect to the performance of property level operations finance and assist with the interpretation of financial and benchmarking data.
  • Prepare high level presentations and summaries for use by the senior management to communicate to owners.
  • Interact with the Vice President of Operations and regional teams regarding financial reporting and accountability.
  • Implement the direction given by the executive management to ensure the overall strategic direction of the Property Finance team is consistent with and supported by the Human Resources, Legal and Finance teams.
  • Identify and oversee resources and activities of the Operations Finance department and confer as appropriate with key stakeholders and departments to accomplish objectives.
  • Direct the grouping of and assignment of tasks, while ensuring optimal allocation of resources.
  • Oversee and evaluate business processes to maximize efficiency and effectiveness within the Property Finance department.
  • Manage the cross-functional links between Operations, Area Controller, Corporate Accounting, Brands and Human Resources.
  • Direct the development and administration of tactical requirements at the hotel level.
  • Oversee and provide direction and directives to the Directors of Finance in the hotels, by establishing work priorities and in achieving management objectives as it relates to the control environment and finance business processes.
  • Ensure proactive communication to owners on budgets, forecasts and actuals.
  • Execute the directives of the organization’s mission, goals and objectives through ongoing and direct motivation, communication, group dynamics and leadership.
  • Ensure appropriate talent is identified in compliance with department staffing plans and develop current property level talents to achieve greater strategic goals and performance.
  • Determine staffing needs and oversee the recruiting, selecting, hiring, training and developing of property level finance departmental managers.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate reporting directives, methodologies, and deadlines.
  • Monitor hotel compliance with the financial reporting calendar.
  • Identify negative trends and create solutions with the senior management.
  • Recommend corrective actions and direct existing staff in implementing action plans.
  • Implement and maintain the Operations Finance systems.
  • Translate organizational goals and objectives into performance standards for divisions, departments and individual positions.
  • Assess actual performance against standards to determine whether the department is on target to reach its goals and take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Ensure business plans and goals are being followed and achieved, providing feedback or revising the plan, if needed.
  • Establish and enforce policies and procedures that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the company.
  • Work within established departmental budget.
  • Review and make appropriate adjustments in activities and expenses throughout the fiscal year to ensure optimal financial results.
  • Work with corporate finance in coordinating accounting changes and variances within the various platforms.
  • Attend Corporate and Operations Finance meetings as required.
  • Assist in special projects as required.
  • Report actions taken or procedural changes necessary to prevent recurrence.
  • Assist Corporate Finance, Directors of Finance, Hotel Controllers, and Central Office Finance with financial issues and irregularities.
  • Recommend and help implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Control environment support including balance sheet reviews and peer review processes.
  • Responsible for the quarterly certification roll-up.

Project support will include but will not be limited to:

  • Labor Management System Project (OE).
  • Property level accounting process optimization.
  • Ad-hoc analysis.
  • Talent support and review.

Taskforceassistance willinclude but will not be limited to:

  • Pre-opening and acquisitionassistance.
  • Property leaving system (proration).
  • Property specific training.
  • Hotline and fraud investigations.

What are we looking for?

A Director of Finance - South Region serving Hilton brands is always working on behalf of our Guests and working with other Team Members. To successfully fill this role, you should maintain the attitude, behaviours, skills, and values that follow:

  • BA / BS Bachelor’s Degree
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in financial operations roles
  • Minimum 6 years of experience developing and leading a team of 4 or more individuals
  • At least 6 years of experience presenting key findings and key analysis to executive leadership
  • At least 6 years of experience working in various financial systems, analyzing and interpreting financial data including variance analysis, ratio analysis, margin analysis and key performance indicators
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access Database
  • Able to provide specific examples of being innovative by creating new analysis, spreadsheets, or reporting tools in a previous work environment
  • Able to travel as required, up to 60% of the time

It would be advantageous in this position for you to demonstrate the following capabilities and distinctions:

  • MA / MS Master’s Degree in Business Administration or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of hospitality industry experience, with a mix of experience from Operations Finance, Business Intelligence and Operations Support roles
  • Minimum 2 years of experience at a Director level
  • In-depth knowledge of Hyperion, Essbase, and PeopleSoft
  • Fluent in English and at least 1 other language
  • International experience
