Eaton’s Electrical Engineering Services & Systems is currently seeking an Engineering Manager – Microgrid Controls Platforms to join our team. This position will be based at any Eaton office location in the United States and does offer relocation assistance.

The Engineering Manager – Microgrid Control Platforms is a critical role for the Microgrid & Distributed Energy Resources (DER) control product line and Eaton energy transition strategy.  The primary responsibilities of this position will be to lead the execution of energy transition controls product development programs from an engineering and technical perspective.  The controls product development program will be based upon multiple existing Eaton control platforms to form a family of microgrid energy control platforms focused on specific energy transition applications.  This role will include controls hardware specification and selection, collaboration with the microgrid and energy transition application software development COE to achieve application software objectives of the product line. 

In addition, this role collaborates with the hardware / firmware engineering teams for each separate Eaton control platform to meet specific microgrid & DER product line control requirements. This role also manages the Quality Assurance teams to ensure deliverables meet the needs of the microgrid & DER control product line.

  • Lead engineering team in software development for microgrid controller product(s) in collaboration with the microgrid application software development COE.
  • Collaborate effectively with external and internal customers, such as marketing product managers and product line managers, service engineers, operations leaders, and other engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle
  • Partner with marketing product managers and product line managers, functional engineering managers, and centers of excellence to ensure strategic alignment, create project scope/release plans, requirements and development plans delivering agreed features per schedule and budget expectations.
  • Coordinate and support product lines as needed with PROLaunch deliverables, system level testing, issue investigation, manufacturing processes, prototypes, pilots and production ramp.
  • Lead the identification of appropriate hardware / firmware platform(s), collaborate with chosen Eaton controller platform team(s) to maintain quality and develop future features & functions.
  • Effectively communicate plans, risks, status of deliverables to teams, management and stakeholders.
  • Own overall department Agile Scrum and JIRA feature & bug processes.  Set standards and lead the creation and reporting of project metrics. This includes measuring/monitoring progress, test coverage and overall confidence information that would be shared with the business.
  • Build teams, with functional leadership, at existing Eaton engineering locations in Pune, Europe and North America leveraging contract resources, as budgets allow, to execute projects and meet QA objectives.
  • Flexibly manage and adapt resources and team to dynamic business growth opportunities.
  • Actively encourage innovation and ensure the team is pursuing modern techniques and technologies
  • Promote professional growth through performance feedback, coaching and mentoring.
  • Develop and lead a strong professional relationship with EESSD controls leaders and senior engineers deploying customer projects using Eaton microgrid controls platforms to establish a strong feedback loop from customers, engineers deploying projects and microgrid controls platform engineers.
  • Maintain knowledge of the latest technology and trends in energy transition and energy transition control to ensure Eaton is deploying the latest technology and achieves engineering thought leadership in the industry.

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Software Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading engineering development projects and QA teams.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without company sponsorship. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science in Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading people
  • Familiar with software, embedded systems, hardware, power systems logic controller or substation automation controller development.
  • Experience working in the field of power systems automation and controls algorithm development.
  • Strong understanding of software requirements development and analysis
  • Experience with leading multiple simultaneous cross-functional / cross-geographic engineering projects

 

Position Success Criteria:

  • Experience working with Agile/Scrum methodologies, with in-depth knowledge of related process and principles
  • Exceptional ability to lead, collaborate, openly communicate, influence others, present and negotiate effectively across disciplines and stakeholders (marketing, engineering, customer support, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience delivering results in an ambiguous and changing environment, with the ability to work independently and be a self-starter, working multi-task on several initiatives at one time, in a fast moving and evolving business
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills, ability to juggle multiple competing priorities, delegate within team, and ability to work under deadline pressures
  • Ability to demonstrate technical learning and can learn new skills, knowledge, industry, product or technical knowledge
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (primarily Pune, India; Canada and Europe)
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of engineering tools such as JIRA, JAMA, Bitbucket
  • Knowledge of communication protocols fundamentals
  • Knowledge of the Electrical Power Systems Domain (Smart Grid, Microgrid, Distributed Generation, SCADA systems, Substation Automation, etc.)
  • Possess and maintain a valid and unrestricted drivers license.

Eaton provides a competitive total rewards package commensurate with applicable skills, knowledge, and experience and consistent with internal and external market practices.   The annual salary range for this role is $114,000 - $156,750 a year. The position is eligible for an annual performance-based incentive plan with a target at 18% of base salary.
