Job Description
BMW Group Plant Swindon supplies the majority of the pressed panels that are then joined together to produce the familiar MINI 'shell'. The completed body is then passed to the Paint Shop in the next process step. Working in one of the largest functions within our business you’ll have a key role in delivering our current product range of vehicles to the highest standards to meet our customers’ expectations.

Training during your apprenticeship includes the study of state of the art automotive production technology as well as the latest innovations in manufacturing techniques, which are constantly developing in line with new emerging technologies. Advanced Manufacturing Engineering is a complex blend of skills and knowledge that are essential to ensuring every BMW product is manufactured to the exact tolerances and to the highest quality to meet our customer expectations. All of our apprenticeships are developed and supported to give you the skills to produce high quality vehicles and drive forward the business.
When it comes to selecting the right apprentices, it’s as much about attitude and behaviours as it is about technical skills. That is why in addition to the qualifications we require from you, we’ll also look for you to have a range of skills, attributes and behaviours. These include: team working, as well as being able to work without close supervision; quality focus and problem solving; excellent communication skills; enthusiasm and initiative; and responsibility and accountability for your work.

Apprenticeship Programme and Career Development:
BMW offers an enhanced level 6 degree apprenticeship programme. The four year programme is designed to enable you to experience different aspects of engineering and production technology including: robotics, controls systems, machining, fluid power, electronics, systems control and many more.

The first year of the program is purely in a learning environment where in addition to starting the academic requirements of your program, you will undertake a practical based engineering program which covers core engineering skills such as milling and turning, hand skills, electrical and electronic circuits and control and fluid power, PLC’s etc.

Following this you will undertake competency based training while working on site and start your degree program with a foundation degree and finishing a full degree by the end of the apprenticeship, which is fully funded by the company.

Engineering technicians, complete a broad spectrum of placements in all areas of automotive manufacturing such as:

• Complete vehicle analysis.
• Supplier liaison/problem solving.
• Vehicle validation.
• Prototype vehicle testing.
• Manufacturing process and facility planning (Both electrical and mechanical).
• Software integration (Both vehicle and computer systems).
• Metrology - computer aided measurement and analysis (Including complete vehicle scanning).
• Supporting the UK MINI Dealer network.
• Vehicle Launch planning/control.

The placements give you the chance to experience the business as a whole whilst carrying out business relevant projects alongside your study. You will have the opportunity to take advantage of the benefits of working for a world-class global automotive manufacturer, networking with people of different nationalities, and to put theory directly into practice.

Following the successful completion of your apprenticeship programme you will be fully integrated into one of our engineering areas, having the opportunity to take on a role in control planning, controls engineering or event maintenance. Our teams are world class and contain our best engineers. The teams are responsible for bringing innovation and technological development into the manufacturing system to ensure we stay the leading manufacturer in the UK.

Salary and Benefits:
A competitive salary enhanced annually depending on individual progress and performance starting at circa £13,950 per annum rising to over £26,000 over the programme.

Company car scheme eligibility to those 18 years and over, plus other benefits including -pension scheme, generous holiday allowance and a subsidised on-site restaurant.

Working Hours:
36 hour working week, start and finish times will vary according to work based placements and college hours.

*If you are currently studying you must upload a school/college report. Failure to attach the above will mean we will be unable to progress with your application.
• A minimum of 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent) at grade 6/B (or above) including Maths and English**
• 2 A Levels (or equivalent) at grade C (or above) or a BTEC level 3 (60 credits plus) or equivalent in a relevant Engineering or Technology discipline.
**If you have already taken your GCSE's and have not met the required level 6 grade for Maths and English but are currently predicted/attained a C grade (or above) in A-level (or equivalent) Maths or English then you are still eligible to apply.

Closing date for applications – Friday 6th March 2020. Assessment centres will take place during April 2020, exact dates to be confirmed.

You must also be able to provide proof of your legal right to work in the UK, if you are not a UK or European passport holder.
