Job Description

Our Client, a Travel & Tourism Entertainment Group, now looking for a high caliber candidate for the following position:

Executive Director, Discovery & Education

 

Job Responsibilities:

· Direct public education activities under the “Thrill of Discovery” mission to make education a key element of group’s overall offerings, positively impacting the guests and participants on nature conservation, and as one of the key revenue generation streams of group.

· Develop and implement a new strategic plan that would further raise group’s unique position in the education field.

· Direct education programs, including animal encounters, nature explorations, school programs, overseas student programs, school outings, adventure camps, corporate programs, curriculum based education under the group Academy, as well as STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) career programs to connect students with careers in nature conservation. 

· Launch new education initiatives including the education tourism activities funded by the Tourism Commission.

· Host marketing events and campaigns to promote education and business opportunities in Hong Kong, mainland China and overseas.

· Establish partnership with schools, companies, NGOs, teachers’ associations and community groups to ensure participation in and positive impact of the activities and programs.

· Oversee the production of education exhibits, interpretive signage and materials.

· Manage educators, narrators, instructors, interns and volunteers. Accountable for an organization of approx. 70 full-time staff, and 200 part-time staff and volunteers.

· Support the Education Committee composed of members from the Board, Education Bureau, teachers and conservation practitioners.

 

 

Job Requirements:

· Knowledge of and experience with education professional/technical principles and practices, government procedures/policies, and relevant rules and regulations

· Knowledge of local education markets, teacher practices, STEAM programming, and science and environmental education curriculum standards.

· Knowledge of early children education principles and interpretive education techniques.

· University graduate with Master or higher education background in education, biology, zoology, environment science, conservation, or related fields.

· At least 20 years of solid experience in the education field, covering select areas of teaching/facilitation, program design/development, education products/services implementation, sales and marketing, business development, etc.

· At least 10 years of leadership experience in managing P&L, budgets, resources and staff.

· Awareness of animals and wildlife protection. Experience in animal education, zoos, science centers, museums or animal care facility preferred.

· Ability to work collaboratively across organizations and teams.

· Excellent customer service skills.

· Strong teamwork and facilitation skills.

· Good business acumen, entrepreneurial and can-do attitude.

· Good command of both spoken and written English, Cantonese and Putonghua.

· Computer literacy in MS Office and Chinese word processing.

· Must be able to work outside normal business hours, including weekends and holidays.
