In the Regulatory In-use Vehicles department we guide the relevant internal committees in a very dynamic international environment in the decision-making process relating to possible field measures for our products worldwide. In addition, we are responsible for providing legal advice in responding to enquiries from worldwide government authorities on product safety, environmental and public law. We also advise management in the strategic international orientation of the company in these legal fields.

From a legal perspective, there is a focus on German and international product law. This includes a strong focus on product safety, environmental and product liability law, while incorporating aspects of public, criminal and administrative regulations.


Your tasks in detail:

  • You will be primarily responsible for the division Mercedes-Benz Cars. In line with the standard processes of our global company, we consider whether corrective field measures (for example, a product recall) are to be initiated in the markets in order to meet our high standards for the quality of our products and the safety of our customers.

  • In your specialist executive function, you will analyse technical issues and evaluate them based on the relevant safety and environmental regulatory requirements worldwide in alignment with representatives from various technical departments. In this role you will also work closely with specialist international law firms.

  • In addition, you will work independently on enquiries for in-use vehicles from worldwide regulatory authorities regarding safety and environmental law issues. As required, you will travel to participate in negotiations with these authorities in the relevant markets worldwide.

  • Further, in order to ensure all employees participating in the review and evaluation process are up to date with the relevant legal framework, you will provide regular training.

  • You will coordinate the collaboration with external counterparts internationally with the goal of achieving efficiency. In doing so, you will further your knowledge in the fields of public law and regulatory issues in relation to environmental law in the automotive industry, and utilise these specialist insights for the benefit of the company (best practices / lessons learned).

  • The safeguarding and promotion of the companys interests with respect to proposals for relevant legislative reform by government authorities, as well as the drafting of opinions and advice on legal issues to be submitted to government agencies, also fall within your field of responsibility.

Professional qualifications:

  • degree in law from a German university and have successfully completed the 1st and 2nd state examinations, or have obtained a comparable foreign degree with above average grades and are qualified to practice in a foreign jurisdiction
  • relevant professional experience in the regulatory field and have experience in product safety, product liability and/or public or environmental law, in a company, organisation or international law firm, where you have gained exposure to foreign jurisdictions
  • fluency in German and English is essential, additional knowledge of foreign languages will be of advantage

  • You are goal-oriented and enjoy working analytically in a very dynamic environment and have an in-depth understanding of, and significant interest in, technical issues
  • High level of interdisciplinary teamwork, resilience and power of persuasion to this role
  • Excellent organizational and negotiation skills, while always keeping in mind cultural differences
