Exterior System Integration Engineer (Fall 2021)

Job Description

This is a Co-Op position which will require three alternating rotations (e.g.Spring, Fall, Summer) 

The student intern, working with exterior systems of the vehicle the student will administer testing to ensure quality and customer requirements are met as it specifically relates to integration, water leaks and wind noise.  The student can expect to support specialists with root cause analysis (RCA) and solution development and to assist in launching new Plant Spartanburg vehicles.

The student can expect to contribute & improve in the following functions:

  • Vehicle/technical knowledge 
  • Geometric validation, analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Basic knowledge and experience in new vehicle development and validation
  • Specific problem-solving processes for vehicle defects
  • Technical experience with total vehicles and part sub-assemblies
  • Cross functional problem solving in a production environment
  • Department knowledge of specific job functions and how they integrate into Plant Spartanburg and the BMW Group
  • The BMW BI rating and customer expectations
  • Standard vehicle validation process
  • Communication skills and experience working with teams
  • Leadership abilities through defect analysis and topic handshakes
  • Specialized skills and experience with analysis equipment and tools 
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and effectively manage tasks

  • Degree pursuit in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive, or Industrial Engineering
  • CAD experience
  • Hands on practical mechanical skills using tools.
  • Communication skills
  • Leadership skills and abilities
  • Time and task management skills
  • Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major)
  • Have full-time status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States
  • Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application
  • Able to complete 3 alternating work terms for Co-op positions
  • Able to work full-time (40 hours / week)
  • Transfer students must have a GPA from current university
  • Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term
