Job Description
Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., a Fortune 500 manufacturer of industrial gases and chemicals, has an immediate opening for a HR Generalist / Employee Relations Specialist.

The HR Generalist / Employee Relations Specialist sits on the MyHR North America Team and reports to the MyHR Regional Manager for North America.  They serve as the “Face of HR” to the general population of employees and managers, and therefore play a critical role in the development and evolution of the Air Products employee experience. This MyHR team is responsible for ensuring that HR support and HR operations meet the organizational objectives, is rapidly responsive to employee and manager needs, and integrates with the other functions within the HR team for consistency. 

This position is located out of the corporate headquarters in Allentown, PA


The HR Generalist / Employee Relations Specialist handles employee and manager inquiries on policy/procedures/processes, workplace complaints and investigations, and resolves the inquiries swiftly and efficiently with the remaining exception cases escalated to HR process owners, Communities of Expertise, and HR Partners.

May assist with the interpretation of labor agreements and execution of related employment actions, disputes and grievances.  


The HR Generalist / Employee Relations Specialist is expected to be knowledgeable in HR Policies & Processes, how HR operates, how to expedite solutions, and be a reliable source of accurate information to managers and employees.  The position requires excellent communication and problem-solving skills, high performance and work ethic to drive to completion, as well as the ability to relate to people at all levels of the organization to understand and resolve issues.  Some flexibility to occasionally work from home.  This position will require some overnight travel to Air Products' locations, up to 30%.

 
JOB DUTIES:
  1. Receive and respond to general HR questions and concerns from managers and employees:
    • Understand and explain HR policies/procedures/processes to provide accurate guidance to employees and managers
    • Interact to understand workplace complaints, conduct appropriate investigations, resolve or escalate appropriately.
    • Well versed on AP Code of Conduct, performance and behavior expectations, and progressive disciplinary philosophies. Manage fair and consistent discipline when appropriate.
  2. Develops core competency in HR tools and programs (Workday, LearnEx, Navex, local time/attendance, etc.) to be able to support employees and managers in day to day activities and encourage direct access.  This role requires direct action in MyHR case management system to log and track issue resolution.
  3. Support manager and employee understanding and execution of life-cycle day-to-day HR processes:  General interviewing and onboarding, Comp planning, talent and performance development, leave of absence, and employee exit process. Ensure consistency and application of best practices globally in process execution
  4. Develop and expedite recommendations to CoEs to improve and streamline HR processes based on employee and manager experience.
  5. Be the Face of HR to bring the desired employee experience to life by partnering with HR Leaders, CoEs, and HR Partners on people practices and process execution.
  6. Instill company philosophy, culture, and core values.  
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources management or a related field
  • 3-5 years hands-on experience as an HR Generalist, with heavy emphasis on employee relations preferably in a manufacturing or distribution setting
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HR laws and regulations
  • Experience with EEO / harassment investigations and general workplace complaint resolution
  • Self-confidence, excellent communication skills, and the ability to act independently
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Strong computer skills required; Workday or other HRIS experience a plus
  • PHR/SPHR/SHRM-SCP a plus
