We are getting ready to launch and scale a stealth travel tech startup that uses machine learning to power personalised discovery, planning and booking of experiences and activities. Financially backed by one of the largest global travel brands, this venture is well positioned to disrupt the $250 Billion APAC travel experiences industry. The company is currently in pre-launch and is expected to enter the market early-2020.  

 

We are looking for an extraordinary Head of Engineering who has a real passion for entrepreneurship to join and help lead the founding team of the Venture.

What you will do:

• Lead technical strategy -
• Develop the technical architecture strategy to support the goals of the business
• Direct and drive high volume product pushes focusing on speed and quality 
• Set the technical vision and engineering roadmap from concept to future platform; including incremental objectives to long-term goals and strategies
• Partner with cross functional-teams including Product Management to translate product vision into a deliverable roadmap; reporting to the CEO

• Execute with excellence -
• Lead and drive delivery, providing visibility of progress and performance
• Effectively align teams and resources to achieve key business priorities on time and at the appropriate scope and highest quality
• Ensure all internal processes and external services comply with security and privacy policies and regulations (data and payments compliance in particular)
• Develop and rollout out an enterprise-wide information security plan to ensure security of all company assets and data
• Build an efficient end-to-end application infrastructure, with standard methodologies in software estimation and delivery
• Define and implement an effective, transparent and repeatable process for quality assurance across all areas of the organisation including product development

• Develop great talent and teams -
• Grow and lead a talented engineering team, developing the careers and technical capabilities of all team members
• Establish a high performing culture emphasising innovation, growth, and development
• Identify, validate and manage collaboration with 3rd party services and resources where required

Who are we looking for:

• Extensive software engineering experience (10+ years) in a fast-paced environment (startup leadership experience preferred)
• Strong foundations in data science and machine learning systems
• Firm understanding of cloud-based infrastructure management
• Ability to operate in a hands-on development capacity as well as strategic and client-facing
• Proven ability to scale and build large engineering teams from scratch
• Ability to lead team and drive high levels of engagement and performance
• Relevant industry experience is preferred (consumer-facing applications, marketplaces, travel industry, booking platforms)
• Entrepreneurial, curious and highly proactive behaviours are essential
