Job Description

HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT OFFICE 

Health, Safety and Environment Specialist (Ref. 20060107-E) 

Duties 

The appointee will be required to: 

(a) implement health, safety and environmental management programmes of the University; 

(b) conduct risk assessment for health and safety management; 

(c) perform health and safety inspections and audits of worksites and workplaces on campus; 

(d) deliver health and safety briefings to staff and students; 

(e) provide emergency responses to incidents and to carry out related investigations; and 

(f) perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Office or his/her delegates. 

The appointee may be required to work outside normal office hours when necessary. 

Qualifications 

Applicants should have: 

(a) a recognised degree in Science, Engineering, Occupational Hygiene, or Occupational Health and Safety; 

(b) at least five years of relevant post-qualification experience in occupational health and safety, construction safety and/or laboratory safety; 

(c) good knowledge of relevant health and safety regulations and legal requirements; 

(d) proficient computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; 

(e) excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and 

(f) be able to communicate effectively in both written and spoken English and Chinese. 

Preference will be given to those who are Registered Safety Officers and/or possess professional memberships of reputable health and safety institutions. Applicants with less experience may be considered for appointment at a lower level. 

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written test. 

Remuneration and Conditions of Service 

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
