The Health and Safety Specialist is a technical expert and subject specialist utilised to sustain and improve Health & Safety in an automotive manufacturing plant. Working within a team, the role covers approx. 2,500 associates, plus contractors and all other persons being on sites. This includes clients, visitors and suppliers within Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Ltd.
Key responsibilities are:

Provide competent health & safety advice including technical and operational expertise to internal customers.

Ensure planned strategies, arrangements and processes are implemented effectively and are working to the ‘Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems‘ ISO 45001 for best practice and compliance with the law.

Ensuring that the safety management system is embedded within the RRMC organisation.

To ensure that all projects outside normal operations are adequately risks assessed by the suppliers delivering the service and the internal project managers and that controls are suitable / maintained.

To ensure that all new equipment being brought for use on the locations is designed, tested and commissioned in accordance with UK legislative requirements.

Within the H&S Management System ensure that internal, 2nd party & 3rd party audits are managed with the involvement of all stakeholders. Steer closure of all outstanding findings.

Steer key performance results of the business to enable target achievement.

Develop safety policies and identifies solutions to safety problems and share best practice.

Develops accident investigation processes and tools that are suitable for the business. Trains and coaches leaders in application of the process and skills in avoiding re-occurrence.

Control the use of chemicals and sign off process onsite.

To proactively anticipate and react to changes in legal requirements and adapt the business in readiness.

Responsible for H&S related topics regarding shutdown activities and alignment with shutdown managers from Technology and contractors.

- Flexible approach, organisation and planning skills.
- Implementation and maintenance of safety management systems.
- Effective negotiation skills.
- Excellent communication skills on all levels.
- Experience in working in cross functional teams.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Advanced IT skills: Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Valid full driving license.
The following qualifications would be beneficial:
- NEBOSH Occupational Safety Certificate or equivalent - mandatory.
- NEBOSH Diploma Level 5/6 or equivalent (e.g. Degree level) - beneficial.
- Lead Auditor.
- Membership of a professional body i.e. IOSH
The following experience would also be beneficial:
- Significant experience in safety management.
- Thorough understanding of UK Health & Safety legislation.
- Ability to influence cross functional teams at all levels of the organization.
- Knowledge in ISO management system standards.
- Sound comprehension of production & manufacturing operations.
- Experience within Automotive manufacturing
The following qualifications would be beneficial:
- NEBOSH Occupational Safety Certificate or equivalent (mandatory)
- NEBOSH Diploma Level 5/6 or equivalent (e.g. Degree level) beneficial
- Lead Auditor
- Membership of professional body i.e. IOSH
