When choosing your career path, choose to be remarkable. We have a new opportunity for a Legal Counsel to join our Legal Affairs team. Based in Markham, Ontario, this role reports to our Counsel for the Western Europe & Canada Region. As Legal Counsel, you will provide general commercial legal advice and counsel to support the Allergan Aesthetics businesses. The successful candidate will be expected to rapidly gain knowledge of our industry and business, and be a true partner capable of managing priorities, providing strategic advice, finding legal solutions to a wide range of complex Canadian matters and global projects with the ability to make comprehensive decisions. To ensure success, you will need to have wide-ranging knowledge of the law and kept abreast of any changes that may affect our client areas, while representing Allergan Aethetics to external stakeholders. Key responsibilities: Advise and resolve routine and complex legal matters in practice area without supervision. Adopt a problem-solving approach to find legal solutions to a wide range of matters. Draft and negotiate a wide range of agreements for various functions, departments (e.g., Regulatory, Market Access, Governmental Affairs, Office of Ethics and Compliance, Finance, Human Resources, Communications and Purchasing). Resolve legal issues using negotiation skills and legal expertise. Select, and direct the work of outside counsel, define and manage project objectives (as applicable). Liaise cross-functionally, on both a local and global level and participate in legal, governance and business meetings. Other responsibilities will include (a) general support to matters delegated and (b) working with other lawyers within AbbVie/Allergan Aethetics on specific matters or projects. Assist on Litigation matters. Member of the local Allergan Aethetics leadership team. Qualifications Qualifications - External Education / Experience required: Bachelor’s in Law from a recognized university. Licensed to practice law in Canada. Minimum of 6-8 years of relevant legal experience, ideally as part of a global pharmaceutical company. Expertise in all aspects of drug development and local regulations, including pharmaceutical regulatory. General understanding / experience in intellectual property (patents, trademarks). Solid knowledge of market access and relevant Canadian legal landscape. National and applicable international antitrust and competition law (specifically parallel trade, technology transfer and research & development). Understanding in the following areas considered an asset: General corporate criminal / anti-bribery law; Ethics and compliance, including local requirements; unfair competition/antitrust law IP and copyright law; Essential skills and abilities: Advanced English language proficiency (oral and written). Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, etc.) Must be at ease with technology (the use of various tools/systems to perform day-to-day tasks). Key leadership competencies: Highly motivated and enthusiastic individual, with a demonstrated ability to adapt to a dynamic environment. Strong communication skills and social intelligence. A cultural sensitivity to working in a diverse and inclusive multi-national company, with an ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and build strong relationships with peers. High ethical standards and integrity, acting as a role model within the organization. Work independently and prioritize key business priorities. Use good judgment, deliver initiatives on time, be agile and proactive. Learn about our business quickly and extensively,and grasp the “essence” of matters or issues. Demonstrate ability to be versatile and optimistic, while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency in a matrix and changing work environment.
