Job Description

Key Responsibilities & Role Details

Bilingual (Spanish-English) lawyer licensed in Costa Rica responsible to provide legal support to the CAMCAR Cluster operations of the company supporting the different units that operate in the Cluster (including but not limited to Marketing Company, Global Finance Services “GFS”, Distribution Hub Panama and Clinical Organization). The position will be based at the Cluster office in San Jose. He/She will be the main point of contact for legal related matters in the CAMCAR markets and the primary responsible lawyer to advice the CAMCAR Leadership Team (LT) as well as the functional contact for the Area Legal Director (ALD) and AZ Global Legal Teams.

The CAMCAR Legal Head will report directly to the CAMCAR President and will be member of the local LT Team. He/she will report to the ALD from a function perspective and will contribute as the responsible lawyer of the CAMCAR markets to the Legal Latin American Team and the company Legal Department. He/she will provide clear, objective, professional and independent business-focused legal advice collaboratively across (i) all other company functions within the local organization; (ii) other Area functions and (iii) the Global Legal Department, as necessary. 

Requirements

  • Costa Rican licensed lawyer (minimum 10 years’ experience as in-house or external counsel advising multinationals).
  • Fluent in Spanish and English (written and spoken).
  • Proven ethics and independent judgment.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain, synthetize and simplify complex legal matters to business decision makers that are not lawyers.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work within a team environment and collaboratively across functions but also to perform and deliver independently without close supervision.
  • Pro-active hands on risk management approach. Business acumen.  Intellectual curiosity.  Ability to ensure material risks are identified and assessed effectively and efficiently.
  • Leadership skills to develop a career within the AZ Legal Department in the long term.

Experience

  • Solid knowledge on industrial/commercial related law fields; e.g., contracts law, commercial arrangements (specially distribution in CAMCAR markets), litigation, anti-corruption, IP, data privacy, competition and employment laws.
  • Experience advising highly regulated sectors and on aspects as anti-bribery, data privacy, licensing, distribution, co-marketing, co-promotion, market access, pricing, tendering, government investigations, internal audits, product liability and illegal trade (anti-counterfeiting).
  • Experience handling numerous priorities and using the latest technological tools.
  • Experience advising the pharmaceutical industry or global life sciences companies and / or digital technology related aspects are a plus.
