We are recruiting school and college leavers to join our Engineering fitter apprenticeship scheme at our brand-new Train Manufacturing facility in Goole. The challenge Part of being an apprentice at Siemens means you get to work on real life projects whilst also being supported on a guided learning journey. Siemens are investing up to £200 million to build an advanced train manufacturing facility Goole which will create up to 700 skilled jobs in engineering and manufacturing at this site. This apprenticeship gives you the chance to be some of the first employees for this project joining the 4,400 other employees working for Siemens in transport related jobs. As this role requires working full time in college for a year prior to joining the team in the factory, you will be expected to display Siemens behaviours: you must be proactive, trustworthy and reliable. Some degree of travel (staying away from home) is also required late in year 1 and in future years. This will be a 3-year rotational apprenticeship where you will be put onto the Engineering Fitter standard and earn your qualifications in Engineering fitter knowledge and competences, with a pathway into manufacturing. This scheme involves placements to NTAR and potentially to other sites in the UK. The Engineering Fitter standard prepares individuals for a career in manufacturing of complex, high value but low volume assemblies. The broad purpose of the occupation is to use machines, equipment or systems, to the required specification to produce these assemblies. Fitters may typically have a mechanical, electrical, electronic, control systems, pipe fitting or instrumentation bias. To produce or re-furbish the components fitters will interpret drawings/specifications and plan their work, for example ensuring they have the right tools, equipment and resources to complete the task to the required specification. Fitters are required to check their work against quality standards and make adjustments as required based on their knowledge. On completion of the task a fitter will hand over the product and prepare the work area for the next task by checking equipment meets the standards required to operate. In their daily work, an employee in this occupation typically interacts with team leaders, line managers/supervisors. They may work as part of a team of fitters or independently, more likely in Siemens to be in a team environment but certainly needing to interact with personnel in other functions for example logistics, quality and health & safety, as well as internal or external customers. Here is how the programme works: Year 1: You will spend your first year in college studying towards your Foundation and Knowledge qualifications, and we will begin integrating you into the Siemens community through work placements during the academic break. At the end of the first-year you will be required to travel to NTAR, the National Training Academy for Rail, in order to complete some rail-specific courses. Year 2: College will continue on a 1-day-a-week basis at this point. You’ll spend the rest of your time completing placements in the Goole facility as it starts production and begins to ramp up. You will work in a number of departments at the Goole facility. This could include assembly, logistics, quality, engineering and maintenance, planning and procurement, to name a few. Further placements at other facilities may be required. Year 3: You will continue your placements in longer blocks of time, heading towards the area in which you will specialise. We will look for you to continue to develop and demonstrate technical, occupational, and professional competence, as you prepare for a role as a Fitter in the manufacturing area. You will complete your Competence qualification and prepare your portfolio for End-Point Assessment. The candidate We are looking for forward-thinking, inquisitive candidates that demonstrate the following characteristics: You will have achieved or be on track to achieve at least 5 GCSE's grade 4 (A-C) or above including maths and English language. You must be willing to travel. In addition to NTAR, possible UK placements may be necessary and would be part of this apprenticeship scheme. You should have 5 GCSEs A-C (or 4-9), 2 of them being English Language and Maths. You should have good communication skills, both written and verbal. As the apprenticeship involves completing academic qualifications and occupational skills development you should have good organisational skills and be able to manage your time appropriately. You must be willing to self-learn, research and take a creative approach to problem solving. You enjoy collaborating with others to find innovative solutions. We can teach you the knowledge on your apprenticeship however it also means a lot to us for you to align to our culture and behaviours. You should be IT literate, able to use Microsoft Office.
