The Digital Health Market will grow exponentially over the next 3 years, with new applications in digital showing in phase 3 studies significant benefits for patients including overall survival in Cancer

AstraZeneca would like to leap frog in this area and has prioritized digital in R&D as a critical strategic area of focus by 2025, as part of the overall company strategy.

Digital Health R&D’s ambition is to transform healthcare, powered by digital, science and collaborations,
to deliver the healthcare outcomes and experience that patients care about the most.

The Digital Health R&D journey incorporates 3 key stages:

  • Stage 1 – foundational, reimagine how we work, by maximizing the use of digital, data and analytics transform processes within R&D to gain significant benefits on speed of the portfolio (goal 9 months acceleration) productivity (goal -20% reduction in cost per patient per year) quality at source, patient experience and probability of success.
  • Stage 2 – advanced, redefine clinical trials and digital health to improve overall patient experiences and outcomes, example redefining patient populations, remote clinical trials, patient apps to reduce/manage adverse events and improve patient outcomes (OS), using data from EHMr and RWE instead of control arms, and through PROs and continuous patient monitoring, creating new end points enabling studies in earlier stages of disease (ctDNA changes) prolonging significantly patients’ lives
  • Stage 3 – future-readiness, reimagine healthcare, examples, AZ as a healthcare provider beyond medicines for certain indications (example: Breast Cancer, proving monitoring, predictive analytics and therapies for improved outcomes)

The Business Agility Office (BAO) is an integrated, objective team, uniquely positioned to oversee the planning, governance and performance of Digital Health R&D

Reporting into the Delivery and Operations Performance Director this role is responsible for the coordination/leading the activities ensuring lifecycle management and business continuity for Digital Health R&D processes and tools, performing critical analysis to identify improvements, and developing reports and reporting tools for Digital Health R&D.

Accountabilities:

  • Maintenance of Tools such as Confluence, Risk and Issue Log and PowerBI support, resolving technical issues with the excel files, making updates like the drop-down lists, adding/ deducting columns when needed and ensuring the connection with PowerBI is not broken
  • Leverage usage of Microsoft Business Intelligence tools other than PowerBI such as PowerApps – used for creating apps on mobile/tablet and PowerFlow – used for creating automated flows to give great synergy by providing greater automation and reduction in repetitive tasks across DH
  • Run monthly/bi-monthly and cover the highlights of inconsistencies, best practices, lessons learned and other misconceptions.  Ensures Business Continuity for SD Processes and Systems
  • Collate metrics and reports for the DHR&D, centrally coordinated and focused on monitoring quality, completeness and timeliness for existing and new dashboards via tools such as PowerBI which should be a connector to other commonly used tools (Outlook, Excel, SharePoint), giving as an outcome a visual interpretation of data seating in various datasets. Create new queries in PowerBI and other tools to enable easy visibility, digestion and analysis of data.
  • Create short training videos and provide systems walkthrough for newcomers on centrally managed tools, like the structure of MS Teams vs. SharePoint and what can be found there. Creation of technical guidance and materials for the department. Run a customer satisfaction survey identifying gaps and areas for the improvement across Digital Health. This could be a starting benchmark for this new agility office supporting business performance activities in analysing data and signalling spotted anomalies
  • Perform feedback sessions regarding pain points and propose improvements. Educating PSOs/PMs community how the tracker should be utilized with the TMO expectations on regular Webinars
  • Create and design a readily accessible and easily digestible dashboards for KPI and governance measures, evaluate metrics and outputs and report on business performance and trends so that Digital Health R&D leadership understand business performance against key indicators
  • Provides inputs to life cycle management and business continuity for Digital Health R&D processes, systems/tools, standards, procedural documentation and training materials. Creates the design of the progress reporting of the Digital Health R&D functional capability build and completes first round of analysis
  • Supports the creation of an effective demand and capacity management approach and tracking process

Education, Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in performance management or portfolio management
  • Some experience of applying and analysing Benefits and Value Management techniques in a Business performance context
  • Superb skills using the suite of Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent relationship building and communication skills including the ability to interpret and communicate technical information into business language, with strong customer focus
  • Continuous Improvement mindset with ability to improve existing analysis and processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently
  • Integrity and trust -- unwavering commitment to "doing the right thing"

Desirable

  • Experience of working in an Agile portfolio/ programme environment and tracking of associated pertinent performance metrics
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Working knowledge of BI tools (e.g. QlikView, PowerBI, Lumira)
  • Working knowledge of Analysis tools (e.g. R, Predictive Workbench, Python)
  • Experience of automating data capture and reporting e.g. moving from spreadsheets into more graphic visualizations/dashboards
  • Experience with benchmarking/scorecards
  • Proven Conceptual and Analytical thinking; concern for standards and willingness to learn from others
