YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Process Research Scientist I , are to: 

 

  • Design, execute and analyze submerged microbial fermentation experiments to understand the performance of strains and optimize process for project-specific parameters;
  • Apply technical expertise and broad scientific knowledge to solve complex problems and troubleshoot issues;
  • Apply statistical experimental designs and analysis of data using statistical models;
  • Lead, plan and oversee Fermentation projects to ensure timely delivery of milestones;
  • Contribute to strategic direction of projects and drive research project activities to key decisions;
  • Communicate project plans and status, experimental results and potential concerns in a clear and effective manner to appropriate internal and external stakeholders;
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements to laboratory processes;
  • Actively survey scientific literature to stay current in specialized area and exploit new technologies and know-hows to solve scientific problems;
  • Ensure compliance with all existing safety and stewardship standards in the area of responsibility;
  • Train and supervise others in specialized area;
  • Have project or technology leadership responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science with at least five years of relevant experience in scientific discipline (Biochemistry, Microbiology, Engineering) or Master of Science with at least two years in a relevant scientific discipline (Biochemistry, Microbiology, Engineering) or Ph.D. with minimum years of experience, in relevant scientific discipline (Biochemistry, Microbiology, Engineering);
  • Experience in microbial fermentation and bioprocessing, microbiology, microbial physiology or fermentation science;
  • Conducts research and contributes to research projects, technologies, publications, intellectual property or trade secrets;
  • Strong background in Fermentation science, process control and basic understanding of microbial physiology, secondary metabolism and biosynthetic pathways;
  • Ability to conduct submerged liquid fermentations in multiple formats such as blocks, shake flasks, microreactor and bioreactors;
  • Ability to perform laboratory procedures, including basic understanding of laboratory equipment and familiarity with general analytical and biological laboratory techniques;
  • Ability to convey ideas and research needs effectively and deliver clear and concise technical presentations to a broad audience;
  • Flexible and able to handle multiple tasks, ability to adapt to changes in work priorities and willing to assist other projects as necessary under tight timelines;
  • Capable of dealing with uncertainties and complexities by being solution-oriented and taking corrective actions to solve problems;
  • Strong digital fluency skills utilizing statistical software programs, statistical experiment design (DOE), Microsoft suite of programs to analyze experimental data and present technical results in team meetings;
  • Ability to lift, drag or push fermentation equipment or related materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
