Research Engineer - Data mining and Machine learning
SIEMENSLeuvenUpdate time: January 19,2021
Job Description
Siemens Digital Industries Software is looking for a Researcher in data mining and machine learning techniques for autonomous vehicle applications.

Project description

BECAREFUL (“Belgian consortium for EnhanCed sAfety & comfoRt pErception of Future aUtonomous vehicLes) is a Flemish research project funded by VLAIO. Four industrial partners (IVEX, XenomatiX, Septentrio and Siemens) work together with two universities, i.e. KU Leuven MECO and TU Darmstadt.

Within this project Siemens Industry Software (SISW) will be active to further strengthen and extend its competitive position in: i) the 1D, 3D and environment simulation tools, ii) the test methodologies, analysis and data acquisition tools and iii) the design and validation of human-like control algorithms for such automated system.

The specific focus of the TEST RTD team of SISW is a) on new data capturing and system monitoring capabilities b) data analysis and system diagnosis methods specific for perceived safety and comfort and c) verification and validation requirements towards comfortable and safe AVs using Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL), Human-in-the-Loop (HuiL) and Vehicle-in-the-Loop (ViL) environments.

Job description

The candidate will use his/her expertise in data mining and machine learning, in combination with a background in automated driving. He/she will research novel algorithms to detect driving patterns, events, and passenger comfort-related metrics based on on-road data measurements. The outputs of those algorithms will enable the efficient indexing and searching of large-scale driving datasets. Parameter distributions associated to common driving scenarios will be derived to obtain deeper insights in those datasets. The candidate will define and implement prototypes using tools such as Python, C, C++, databases, etc.

The candidate will interact with the project partners and with peers within the RTD team to plan and coordinate the ongoing research activities.  The candidate will contribute to reporting of project results towards the funding agencies as well as internal reporting for dissemination of project results to project engineers and ensure alignment with business objectives.

Candidate profile

The candidate will be working as research engineer in the research team of the Test division in Leuven.

A suitable candidate:

·       Has an MSc. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electromechanical, Computer Science).

·       Is proficient in spoken and written English in view of collaboration, presentation and reporting.

·       Skilled in programming languages such as Python, C, C++

·       Experienced in large scale data processing and mining.
