Job Description

Our client is one of the leading International Law Firms with offices around the globe and one of the biggest in Asia.
 

THE ROLE

Working closely with the Senior HR Manager and HR Director, the Senior HR Advisor will provide a proactive HR service to support the effective management and development of people in our Hong Kong and regional offices in Asia. The role will be the first point of contact for a number of the firm's Practice Groups, Business Services Departments and Regional Offices.


The main objectives of this role will include managing employee relations issues, the co-ordination and management of operational HR processes, leading on recruitment for Business Services Departments and assisting with the delivery of key HR projects to contribute to the HR teams’ objectives.

In addition, the role provides cover for other members of the team during periods of absence.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide advice and guidance to employees, partners and managers on performance, disciplinary, probation periods, grievance issues, counselling, absence management, welfare and other staffing issues, seeking advice from the Senior HR Manager and the Firm's internal employment lawyers as appropriate.
  • Provide advice and support in managing organisational change including managing redundancy processes and other employment terminations.
  • Manage the recruitment process from start to finish for Business Support roles such as developing job descriptions, seeking the relevant approvals, advising advertising means (direct sourcing where possible), screening applications, interviewing, negotiating and managing the offer process, processing relevant paperwork etc.; responsible for the Firm’s relationships with recruitment agencies for Business Support roles
  • Provide advice and guidance to the business on proactively managing sickness absence in line with the Absence Policy, including conducting timely return to work interviews; liaise with the occupational health provider on ergonomic matters and seek guidance on individuals’ fitness for work and any workplace adjustments required.
  • Work with the HR Operations team to review policies and procedures and put forward proposals and recommendations to keep in line with legislative and market changes and adapt to organisational and business needs.
  • Keep up to date with pay and benefit trends and market rates; provide advice and guidance on remuneration issues and with the Compensation and Benefits team conduct the annual salary review and bonus awards process.
  • Prepare and collate management information as required. 
  • Work with the HR Operations team to ensure the annual appraisal process runs smoothly in Asia.
  • Run inductions for new starters and ensure that the induction process meets the needs of individuals and the firm at all times; contribute to the development of the induction programme suggesting ideas and ways to improve.
  • Conduct 'settling in' meetings and exit interviews and disseminate information as appropriate, ensuring trends and issues are highlighted to the HR Director
  • Provide guidance and advice to those who are undertaking maternity, paternity or adoption leave advising on policy as necessary. Conduct pre maternity meetings and liaise with individuals, managers and partners on return to work arrangements including advising on flexible working requests.
  • Support the International Mobility Manager on international client secondments and inter-office secondments; provide guidance and support to the Practice Groups in relation to client secondment agreements and arrangements.
  • Assist in the development of the firm’s diversity programmes, diversity networks and other diversity related initiatives and events.
  • Assist in the development of the firm's wellbeing programmes and the coordination of wellbeing related initiatives and events.
  • In conjunction with the learning and development team, assist partners and managers in identifying training needs and support the delivery of training as appropriate. 
  • Assist with legal recruitment and interviews subject to capacity and in the absence of the Senior Legal Recruiter as needed.
  • Deal with ad hoc queries and act as a point of contact for a range of enquiries.
  • Undertake projects and any ad hoc responsibilities as required.
  • Keep abreast of changes in employment law and current trends in HR best practice.
  • Assume responsibility for own personal development and contribute to the development of other members of the team. 

 

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • HR related qualification desirable


Experience:

  • Proven HR and recruitment experience in legal, professional services or financial services organisation. 
  • A thorough understanding of current employment law and how to apply this in the workplace.
  • Track record of developing and implementing HR initiatives which have contributed to achieving business objectives.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Cantonese; Mandarin desirable
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise and juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong influencing and persuasion skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
