Job Description

Do you possess expertise within Mass Spectrometry and Sample Preparation? Are you a dedicated and experienced Protein Biologist? Would you like a role where your expertise, as well as your leadership skills, will be highly appreciated?

Right now we are looking for a new colleague to join our Mechanistic Biology & Profiling department and the team in Gothenburg. As part of the Discovery Sciences organization in Gothenburg, one of our remits is to provide detailed mechanism of action data to drug discovery projects. In this lab-based role, you will get the opportunity to combine your excellent communication and team-working skills with a real passion for scientific excellence, delivery and innovation.

Our beautiful campus in Gothenburg is one of AstraZeneca’s three strategic science centres. The site is home to over 2,500 employees, from 50 different nationalities. Main Responsibilities

This is a truly exciting senior lab-based role where you will operate in a cross functional and global setting. You will take the global responsibility for coordination and implementation of strategies within quantitative measurements of intracellular protein levels and their turnover using mass spectrometry. Furthermore, determination of target protein occupancy and cellular protein turnover and degradation in response to treatment will be another of your remits.

You will use your sample workup and protein labelling skills in high throughput formats to support mechanistic studies of specific target proteins. We will also rely on you to take an active role in the local and global leadership teams within the department as well as to lead multi-disciplinary initiatives and positively influence our continuous scientific development.

Essential Requirements

We know that excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to operate effectively in a multi-disciplinary research environment is essential in this position. The seniority level of the role expects you to possess excellent decision-making skills with tenacity to see decisions through, even in situations of ambiguity.

  • PhD complemented by extensive relevant postdoctoral experience
  • Proven expertise in biological mass spectrometry applied in drug target occupancy and protein turnover measurements
  • Extensive experience in protein sample preparation from cell lysates and a deep understanding of available approaches for enrichment and labelling
  • Proven ability in providing technical leadership and mentorship to others
  • Scientific visibility and leadership through project contributions and external publications
