Key Responsibilities:

In this role, the Scientist I/II will need to develop and implement various mass spec-based methods for the identification and quantification of product variants to support process development, product characterization, CQA assessment and actively participate in the activities of cross-functional teams.  He / She will be responsible for providing high quality data to support the characterization of biopharmaceuticals, such as recombinant proteins, bispecific antibodies, antibody drug conjugates and aid in drafting of CMC documents for regulatory submissions.

  • Support Pre- and post-IND characterization using various mass spec-based approaches, including peptide mapping, disulfide bond mapping, intact mass, N-/O-linked glycosylation profiling, de novo sequencing etc.
  • Keep accurate records of all experiments, data, equipment logs and troubleshoot the instruments as necessary
  • Make detailed observations, analyze data and interpret data
  • Present and discuss experimental results at group/project team meetings
  • Authorize SOPs and other technical documents
  • Familiarize with GLP and GMP requirements during biopharmaceutical product development

Key Qualifications:

Scientist I: 

Education: PhD, MS or BS with an emphasis on protein mass spectrometry strongly preferred.

  • Ph.D. with some relevant experience in analytical science, chemistry, biochemistry or related field
  • Masters and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in analytical science, chemistry, biochemistry or related field
  • BS and at least 10 years of relevant experience in analytical science, chemistry, biochemistry or related field
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience of utilizing LC-MS/MS techniques for protein characterization (can be acquired during PhD study).
  • Extensive experience on operating and maintaining different mass spec instruments.
  • Experience in utilizing data analysis software such as Xcalibur, MassLynx, BioPharma Finder, Protein Metrics, UNIFY, Proteome Discoverer, Genedata, ProMass etc.
  • A strong track record of success.

Scientist II: 

Education: PhD, MS or BS with an emphasis on protein mass spectrometry strongly preferred.

  • Ph.D. with a minimum of 3 years of experience in analytical science, chemistry, biochemistry or related field
  • MS and a minimum of 10 years of experience in analytical science, chemistry, biochemistry or related field
  • BS and at least 13 years of experience in analytical science, chemistry, biochemistry or related field
  • At least 3 years of industry experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience of utilizing LC-MS/MS techniques for protein characterization.
  • Extensive experience on operating and maintaining different mass spec instruments.
  • Experience in utilizing data analysis software such as Xcalibur, MassLynx, BioPharma Finder, Protein Metrics, UNIFY, Proteome Discoverer, Genedata, ProMass etc.
  • A strong track record of success.

Preferred Qualifications:   

  • Experience with biopharmaceutical development in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
  • In-depth knowledge in mass spectrometry and separation science.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Instinctive team player with excellent people skills.
  • Experience in ETD MS/MS, hydrogen-deuterium exchange (HDX) MS, nano LC-MS, Host cell proteins (HCPs) by LC-MS, on-line Interfacing SEC-MS, IEC-MS, CE-MS (such as Zip Chip), ion mobility for higher-order structure (HOS), is a plus.
