JOB SUMMARY

 

Technical lead for large scale enterprise.   Leads technical workgroups and/or functions as a technical expert.  Resolves and makes decisions on complex and high-risk issues.  Performs research, analysis, design, creation, and implementation of infrastructure systems to meet current and future user requirements.  Directs Service Providers to modify and maintain existing systems to address changes in business processes.  Ensures Service Providers achieve contracted service delivery outcomes.  Monitors multiple projects by Service Provider to successful completion, maintaining scope within the time and budget constraints.  Responsible for designing efficient and optimal networks, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), the Internet, intranets, cloud computing virtual networks, software defined networks, and other data communications systems.

 
CANDIDATE PROFILE
 
Education and Experience
 
Required:
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience/certification
  • 7+ years’ experience as a Network Engineer with 5 or greater years in a hands on role that implements engineering standards, documenting engineering designs, and participating in project cutovers.
  • 5 years’ experience in an IT infrastructure lead role that include:
    • Advanced level of knowledge of Cisco Data Center equipment such as the Nexus 9000.
    • Experience in setting up virtual private clouds in public cloud infrastructure such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
    • Experience with designing and engineering connectivity to public cloud providers utilizing technologies such as AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute, Google Dedicated Interconnect, or Oracle FastConnect
    • Experience with automating network functions through tools such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible, or Terraform
    • Experience with writing Python applications to support network automation
    • Understanding of legacy networking routing protocols and the interaction with cloud interconnects
    • Experience with network load balancers, WAN optimizers and Network virtualization.
  • 3+ years’ direct experience with Cisco Data Center equipment such as Nexus 9000
  • 3+ years’ experience with high availability planning, component redundancy design and implementation
  • 2+ years’ experience in designing large-scale enterprise network interconnectivity with cloud providers using standard best practices
  • Ability to work non-standard hours during change implementations

  • Experience with Network Management tools for performance, fault and capacity management, topology mapping, application dependency mapping, application performance and configuration management.
  • Design, test, and inspect Network systems and services
  • Experience supporting large complex global network operations
  • Good understanding of Cisco wireless infrastructure; Cisco WLC, ACS, various model access points, multiple SSID with various access list and QoS at the wireless network.
  • Experience with Quality of Service in various data/voice network implementations.
  • Good understanding and working knowledge of TCP/IP, netflow, access-control lists, policy-based routing, performance routing (PfR), peering, and DNS.
  • Experience with Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with network load balancers, WAN optimizers and Network virtualization.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze and research problems of a complex nature, contributing to problem resolution decisions and operational recommendations.
  • Proficient with high availability planning, component redundancy design and implementation.
  • Ability to design a large-scale enterprise network using standard best practices.
  • Demonstrated history of excellent communications and writing skills with the ability to facilitate technical designs and architecture discussion with stakeholders.

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES
 
  • Leads and provides guidance and support for successful project deliveries and change implementations
  • Provides technical input to the overall department architecture and operational governance models
  • Conducts research and reviews the design / implementation of Network infrastructure components to validate standards and SLA compliance 
  • Makes contributions to the introduction of Network solutions that enhance the operations and cost structures of the Marriott environment
  • Creates and makes available project documentation with a focus on communicating technical features and functions of solutions
  • Participates in the evaluation and selection of Network infrastructure services products
  • Works closely with department leadership and service providers to support alignment of plans with solution delivery
  • Supports audit responses and governance based on Marriott standards ensuring proper alignment on projects and major initiatives
  • Leads analysis of the current environment to detect critical deficiencies and recommends solutions for improvement
  • Leads analysis of reported outage events to determine potential impact on the in-place network infrastructure and architecture
  • Utilizes capacity modeling and data to align systems state and future planning with department strategy and goals
  • Informs project teams of necessary modifications and costs of Network infrastructure services to accommodate goals
  • Consults with Service provider teams to identify when it is necessary to modify the technical elements to accommodate infrastructure needs
  • Oversees and produces configuration documentation of task level Network engineering specifications, diagrams and configurations
  • Participates in and suggests improvements to standards configuration, change management processes and practices
  • Develops test plans, implementation plans, and project timelines for various projects and tasks
  • Takes a leadership role on network infrastructure projects to configure routing and switching elements including designing and troubleshooting
Delivering Technology
  • Performs complex quantitative and qualitative analyses for service delivery processes and projects
  • When called upon, trains and/or mentors more junior team members, and peers
  • Provides financial input on department project budgets, capital expenditures or other cost/resource estimates as requested
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance the service delivery processes
  • Facilitates achievement of expected SLA deliverables and obligations of Services providers
  • Validates completeness of requirements prior to Service Provider implementation
  • Coordinates with service providers the quality control of Network systems functionality, design, usability, and implementation
  • Advises service desk on change management as it relates to support and training of new system
  • Ensures proper coordination with appropriate IT and vendor relations teams
  • Provides consultation for routine and complex systems development
  •  Ensures early warning to the business stakeholders in the event of degraded or missed service levels
 

Service Provider Management

  • Validates that Service Providers meet objectives for project schedules, deliverables, and operational metrics
  • Review and validate service provider implementation plan for changes and outcomes
  • Reviews of accuracy service provider estimates of work efforts
  • Facilitates timely resolution of service delivery problems and minimizes the impact to Marriott’s business
