The Deal Strategy proposition provides clients with inbound / outbound / domestic merger, acquisition, divestiture and joint venture support, focusing on pre, mid and post deal integration and separation planning and implementation. Our services include target screening, commercial / HR / operational / carve-out due diligence, cost and synergy assessments, pre-signing and pre-completion planning and transition support, as well as post-deal support, separation & integration support, PMO (Project Management Office) support and portfolio management. Our professionals work with our clients across the transaction lifecycle to help ensure that deal objectives and value targets are met with minimal disruption to their business.

A Summary of the role

This role acts as a model leader or person-in-charge in a small-scale engagement / project focusing on deal strategy. The individual should deliver quality, efficient and profitable outcomes by diligently completing his / her own work, and supervising the work of the engagement / project team. They are responsible for monitoring the overall engagement / project, as well as maintaining a strong positive relationships with middle to senior level personnel internally and externally. This role also identifies issues and opportunities in the engagement/project and communicates to manager / senior manager.

Responsibilities

  • Apply the deal-related methodology to the practical aspects of business operations and the client’s market sector throughout the engagement / project process to support sound and practical recommendations to clients
  • Conduct pre-deal HR, operational and carve-out due diligence., and etc.,
  • Work in an engagement / project team, occasionally alongside other countries across APAC and globally, to support the engagement / project manager in assisting clients to execute project tasks within PMO and across multiple functions (Finance, HR, IT, etc.)
  • Assist PMO tasks, including assessing the completion of milestones, identifying and escalating risks and issues, summarising status reports and other administration activities
  • Support the engagement / project manager in creating quality end products which require limited review, such as tracking tools, client-specific project templates and reports
  • Support the engagement / project manager to execute project plans, identify areas for improvement and support detailed planning and execution through the post-deal completion phase
  • Assist with the creation and development of client proposals with a focus on Deal Strategy services
  • Liaise effectively with clients whilst working on engagements / projects and act as an ‘ambassador’ for KPMG

Experience

  • 2+ years of deal relevant experience in:
  • Strategy consulting or Transaction advisory or Management consulting in a big 4 / similar firm, Tier 1 & 2 strategy houses preferred
  • M&A related positions of a leading company
  • Experiences with HRDD / operational/carve-out DD and integration & separation are advantages
  • Operational consulting experiences related to HR, IT, Finance, Supply Chain are advantages
  • Strong understanding of Deal basics (typical types, deal process and key milestones, etc.)
  • Strong capabilities in using Microsoft Office applications (including Excel, PPT and Word) and slide structuring and writing
  • Strong numerical capabilities and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated, well-organised with a positive “can-do” attitude towards challenge
  • Enthusiasm to work as part of a team based across multiple geographies to meet challenging client deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to review and assess large volumes of technical data and distil the key strategic insights
  • Ability to build complex financial models that support recommendations to clients
  • Willingness to travel, if required

Background

  • Bachelor or above Degree from a leading institution
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
  • Chinese written and oral communication proficiency are a definite advantage
