About The Role

Do you have a passion for product quality and want to build tools to help teams create better products? Do you love to get into the mind of users to understand why the product doesn't work for them? Talk to us! We're looking for an experienced engineer to join Airbnb's Feedback Tools team. 

The Feedback Tools team builds leverage for researchers, product specialists, and engineers to enable every design and product decision at Airbnb to be informed by rigorous, efficient, multi-method research. The team manages high throughput data pipelines, iterates on a survey delivery platform, builds tools for employees and users to report tools and make it easier for product teams to fix them. We’re planning to expand this product suite to include running prediction models to auto-route customer feedback as well. Experience with large data sets, service architecture, web development, will not only impact the thousands of Airbnb employees, but also the millions of Airbnb users.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and automate large scale, high-performance data processing systems (batch and/or streaming) to drive Airbnb business growth and improve the product experience.
• Develop and maintain Airbnb's internal system for tracking and reporting product defects and quality issues that's used by all of Airbnb product engineering and has C-level visibility.
• Evangelize high quality software engineering practices towards building software infrastructure and data pipelines at scale. 
• Passion for improving product quality at Airbnb through effective defect tracking, defect resolution, and organizational process management.
• Lead data engineering projects to ensure pipelines are reliable, efficient, testable, & maintainable.
• Contribute to shared Engineering tooling & standards to improve the productivity and quality of output for Engineers across the company.

Minimum Requirements: 

• 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in CS/EE, or equivalent experience.
• Experience building, leading, and architecting large, high-scale web applications (e.g., well-designed APIs, high volume data pipelines, efficient algorithms).
• Experience designing and deploying high performance systems with reliable monitoring and logging practices.
• Effectively work across team boundaries to establish overarching architecture, and provide guidance to individual teams.
• Working knowledge of relational databases and query authoring (SQL).
• Experience with Java and Rails is strongly preferred. Experience with Kotlin / Ruby / Scala / Spark would be helpful.
• Bonus: Experience working in a JVM-based Service-Oriented Architecture and a modern frontend stack.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
