Senior Research Scientists & Research Scientists – Cell Engineering

We are looking for Research Scientists and Senior Research Scientists to work in our Cell Engineering team within AstraZeneca’s Discovery Sciences based in Cambridge, UK. These roles provide an exciting opportunity to join a vibrant environment passionate about the generation of cell models for target identification/validation and cascade development in drug discovery.

You will use state of the art editing methods to endogenously modify disease relevant cells to enable characterisation and perturbation of a variety of biological processes. As part of an innovative team you will work with our postdoc community, our global precise genome editing community and high-profile external collaborators to improve current CRISPR methods for use in preclinical model generation. You will maintain scientific excellence, presenting data to key stakeholders internally and at external conferences in addition to publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

In this role you will be embedded in AstraZeneca’s UK Discovery Biology department and join a community of scientists with broad technological expertise dedicated to drug discovery. They will become integral members of early drug discovery projects at AstraZeneca.

Essential Requirements

  • Ph.D in cell biology, molecular biology or equivalent experience
  • Proven experience in manipulation of cell lines
  • Strong experimental design and problem-solving skills
  • Scientific excellence as shown by previous work, publication history and references from scientific mentors
  • Excellent team working, communication and networking skills with experience of interacting effectively across interfaces of discipline, culture and expertise.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in Oncology signaling pathways
  • Experience of CRISPR/Cas9, genome editing and stable cell engineering
  • Experience in endogenous tagging
  • Experience of cell-based assays and high content imaging to measure disease-relevant phenotypes
  • Experience of NGS and NGS data analysis
