Location: Alderley Park, Cheshire prior to relocation to Cambridge

We are looking for Research Scientists and Senior Research Scientists to work in our Global High Throughput Screening (HTS) Centre based in Alderley Park, prior to relocation in the future to a new, state-of-the-art R&D Centre in Cambridge, UK. These roles provide an exciting opportunity to join HTS, the only department within our world-leading pharmaceutical business that focuses unequivocally on Hit identification. You will join a team of scientists delivering High Throughput Screens to AstraZeneca drug projects and academic collaborators, improving the delivery of projects in compliance with SHE requirements. You will have a passion for scientific delivery and innovation, developing science and technology strategy and crafting the future of the HTS capability, and building positive relationships with scientific colleagues. You will be a member of the Discovery Sciences organization, working within an outstanding scientific environment to support drug discovery across each of AstraZeneca’s Therapeutic Areas. As part of an HTS team you will be key in delivering biology and technology output. You’ll have every tool to acquire both practical and academic skills and become a true expert in your field.

Essential Requirements

  • BSc/MSc/PhD in a relevant biology discipline or equivalent experience
  • Flexibility to work at Alderley Park, Cheshire initially and then relocate to Cambridge
  • Ability to drive the practical application of new assay approaches to screening and drug discovery science in Hit Discovery
  • Familiarity with technology-rich lab environments.
  • Excellent team working, communication and networking skills with experience of interacting effectively across interfaces of discipline, culture and expertise.

Desirable Requirements

  • Strong understanding of the analysis and interpretation of screening data to understand mechanism of target engagement. Experience of at scale data analysis and statistics
  • Experience working in a pharmaceutical or biotech laboratory environment e.g. industrial placement
  • Assay Development, cascade design and drug discovery project team experience
  • Demonstrable experience in cellular, imaging, biochemical or biophysical screening approaches and ability to troubleshoot screening problems
  • Understanding of state-of-the-art assay and automation technology platforms
  • Publication record and/or experience of presenting scientific data
  • Experience of small molecule screening and/or fragment-based screening.
  • Experience of laboratory automation and a keen interest to develop knowledge in this space
  • Experience of coordinating SHE activities
