Job Description

We’re looking for a Senior Strategy Associate to join Booking.com’s Flights Strategy & Operations team. As a Senior Strategy Associate, you will be responsible for helping shape the future of Booking.com, the leading global player in the $2 trillion online travel industry. In this unique role you will be working on high-impact, challenging and cross-functional flights projects, with frequent direct exposure to senior leadership. You will be a key contributor to growth of the flights business, driving the overall strategy development, leading strategic initiatives, and forging new paths to optimize business performance while collaborating across multiple internal teams and external partners.

The Booking.com Flights Strategy & Operations team is a growing team that drives the long-term strategy and business planning for the flights vertical, supports strategic decision-making, leads initiatives to optimize business / financial / marketing performance, co-develops our supply growth strategy, and leads backoffice operations workstreams. The Sr. Strategy Associate will be instrumental in laying the strategic commercial foundations for a rapidly growing business as we are focused on becoming a globally competitive flights OTA, requiring ongoing evolution of our business growth strategy and optimization of short-term performance while supporting long-term decision-making. In addition to supporting our long-term growth, there will be ample opportunity to make a significant and measurable short-term impact on the business through analysis of our sales performance, revenue optimization, and supporting ongoing business operations workstreams.

B.Responsible

  • Support development of both short-term and long-term flights strategies to drive business growth by using external and internal analysis, developing a compelling storyline to drive alignment, presenting to stakeholders across the business, and driving resulting initiatives
  • Support strategic decision-making amongst flights product and business leaders by providing key commercial guidance and driving alignment with the overarching flights strategy
  • Partner with our FP&A and flights data teams to lead regular analysis of sales and financial performance, communicate trends and performance drivers, identify opportunities, and recommend strategies and tactics to achieve business goals
  • Collaborate across the flights team to optimize our cross-channel revenue strategy, drive alignment on long-term objectives, identify and communicate strategic trade-offs generated by various activities across the business
  • Lead expansion of our price benchmarking capabilities, own the flights price benchmark measurement and drive analyses with our data team and supply partners to improve price competitiveness
  • Develop the foundations for flights pricing strategy, utilizing sales performance analysis and price competitiveness data to drive achievement of financial and business objectives while also identifying areas of knowledge to build through experimentation in support of future flights pricing capabilities
  • Work closely with the flights product marketing manager to ensure our pricing/revenue strategy is driving achievement of performance marketing objectives and financial targets
  • Support and/or lead elements of the annual / quarterly strategic planning process including linking the annual budgeting process with the long range strategic planning process
  • Support strategic initiatives within Product Marketing, Supply Business Development and Backoffice Operations areas of the Strategy & Operations team as needed

B.Skilled

  • Ideally the candidate would bring 5+ years work experience, including several years of commercial experience in the flights industry, specifically in revenue management, competitive analysis, and/or strategy development is highly desirable
  • Significant experience required in analyzing performance data to identify opportunity drivers, prioritizing across multiple quantitative and/or qualitative attributes, and working collaboratively to develop strategic plans to capitalize on the identified opportunities
  • Strong data analysis skills using Excel and/or Google Sheets is required, including the ability to handle large data sets, utilize various methods to uncover and communicate key findings, and utilize to develop various sales & financial models in support of flights strategy development
  • Knowledge of SQL and other data gathering and analysis techniques is a plus
  • Experience working with a data analytics team to drive visibility on key business performance indicators through reporting and/or dashboard development and coordinating deeper performance analyses is a plus
  • Significant experience in influencing stakeholders at multiple levels of the organization
  • Ability to distill complex business issues and strategies to highlight insights and actionable recommendations in a concise and persuasive manner
  • Ability and preference to take ownership, entrepreneurial, proactive with positive attitude, a self-starter who can manage multiple initiatives/priorities
  • Creativity and “out of the box” thinking that drives innovation
  • Results driven, pragmatism and ability to learn, test and iterate quickly.

  • Expertise in technology, ideally in travel, e-commerce, retail, payments, and/or consumer facing products is a plus
