Job Description

As the Technical Program Manager for the newly created Procurement Center of Excellence at Applied Material, you will be critical to the continuous development of the Global General Procurement (G2P) organization. This role will support the global enterprise through significant projects and programs that support Indirect Procurement’s multi-year transformational journey to a best-in-class management of approximately $2.5 billion in indirect spend. Our transformation journey will include empowering process transformation through technology, expanding and enhancing Procurement support services portfolio, and elevating and standardizing Procurement services through best practices, training and templates. 

Projects will include business process architecture and related technical solution implementations, development of strategic sourcing and category management methodologies, creation of an indirect supplier relationship management (SRM) program, risk management, supplier related corporate social responsibility programs, organizational KPIs and ROI, training, and change management.

 

You will manage key initiatives such as technology assessments and implementations, process and policy improvements to deliver significant bottom line value while driving global compliance, controlled spending and risk mitigation.  This role will partner closely with cross functional teams such as business units, finance, legal, IT, accounting, information security, privacy and global G2P team members.

 

The successful Technical Manager will draw on a diverse background of skills such as people management, project management, technical expertise, and business acumen. This person will enjoy contributing to and being a key player in the creation of an Indirect Procurement Center of Excellence.

 

Applied Materials Indirect Procurement is a Global support organization, procuring the goods, services and contingent workforce required for Applied Materials to run the company and enable our employees to support our customers.  Our Sourcing categories include but are not limited to IT Hardware, Software and Telecommunications, Consulting, Professional Services, Facilities, Real Estate, Equipment and Equipment Maintenance as well as Contingent Workforce.

This position will report to the head of the Indirect Procurement Center of Excellence.       

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and manage projects to increase the indirect procurement capabilities globally
  • Navigate and coordinate within a complex and collaborative global environment
  • Identify and help drive resolution to systemic process, technology and program gaps
  • Influence/affect change and drive results, fostering relationships, managing conflict with confidence and integrity, and removing roadblocks to enable win-win for the company
  • Facilitate the definition of project scope, goals, and deliverables
  • Develop KPIs and metrics to manage program performance and provide visibility to internal stakeholders and leadership
  • Partner with suppliers and technology teams to build scalable solutions to business problems
  • Prepare project plans and coordinate the attainment of project deliverables from planning to implementation.
  • Drive project deliverables and task details by through facilitation of project meetings, the use of reports, tracking charts and, checklists.
  • Align the activities of resources internal to the business unit to achieve on-time and within budget performance objectives for the project.  
  • Participate on intra business unit design teams to complete projects.  Contribute to the team's business and technical development in the pursuit of the team's project goals.
  • Develop and implement consistent standardized business processes

Experience and skills:

  • Demonstrated program leadership, customer oriented and results focused
  • Broad knowledge of project and program management methodologies, including Agile
  • 10 + years technical project management experience, preferably in the sourcing / procurement / supply chain domain
  • Passion and prior experience implementing /enhancing procurement software solutions (e.g. SAP Ariba, Fieldglass, SRM, Coupa, Scout, Oracle, ServiceNow)
  • Proven ability to lead complex and /or virtual teams. Team player and team builder. Facilitates communication, decision making, and alignment with team members (and internal and external stakeholders).
  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, articulating, listening, and questioning.
  • Explains difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus.
  • Thrives in a dynamic work environment; has ‘can-do’ attitude. Challenges the status quo and perpetually seeks process improvements. Ability to influence and affect change.
  • Solid problem solving and time management skills
  • Strong attention to detail, highly organized
  • General understanding of non-technical aspects of supply chain, such as strategic sourcing and category management methodologies, supplier relationship management (SRM).
  • Functional re-engineering or process improvement skills, including experience creating process diagrams, analyzing workflows, developing standard operating procedures, and reengineering business processes.  
  • Ability to effectively shift priorities and work at a fast pace
  • Managerial experience preferred – This role may become a player/coach
  • Excellent Excel, Word, PowerPoint skills.  Tableau skills preferred.
