Job Description

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engage with assigned Thermo Fisher Divisions to manage transportation activity and spend for inbound, outbound and International shipments while driving execution consistent with service requirements and customer expectations.
  • Design and maintain appropriate inbound & outbound road/air networks utilizing a proper/optimized mix of Full Truck Load, Less Than Truck Load, and Parcel carriers; Deliver logistics solutions that balance cost, quality and service.
  • Leverage transportation providers relative rate structures across all modes to facilitate effective carrier routings, mode and service selections for assigned Thermo Fisher Divisions. In concert with Transportation Sourcing counterparts, drive implementation of transportation sourcing strategy.
  • Design and implement logistics solutions that dive reduced transportation costs and improved productivity.
  • Function effectively as a shared service resource, who understands and responds to the transportation and logistics needs and the requirements of a client community comprised of Thermo Fisher Scientific manufacturing divisions.
  • For carrier/provider relationship and performance management, develop and maintain programs for corporate oversight and local carrier engagement that include formal performance review meetings, performance score cards cost, quality, and service metrics to evaluate carrier performance. Make changes as required.
  • Leverage best transportation practices across the Thermo Fisher Scientific enterprise.
  • Partner with Divisional Transportation Managers to drive compliance with a Core Carrier routing strategy, while managing transportation cost, quality and service to expected levels.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor degree in supply chain management, business, logistics, finance or economics/finance.
  • 6+ years of transport/logistics management experience preferably with shipper, carrier, and/or consulting firm;
  • Verifiable track record of transportation re-engineering projects delivering cost, service, and quality improvements to the shipper.
  • Verifiable experience in parcel logistics (UPS, FedEx, DHL, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of all applicable transportation regulation (USDOT,IATA, IMDG, etc.);
  • Experience managing complex, multi-modal transportation networks serving both domestic and International.
  • Experience utilizing analytical tools in data rich environment. Strong analytical and computer skills preferred.
  • Leadership skills to take charge and initiate actions to drive change;
  • Superb organizational skills to plan, organize, and set priorities to facilitate timely execution;
  • Comfortable in structured / procedural environments;
  • Comfortable with hands-on managerial style, but able to effectively delegate;
  • Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all levels of the organization;
  • Work effectively with others in the management team to resolve interdepartmental issues;
  • Experience with transportation sourcing and contracting
  • Dynamic, high energy professional with a track record as an effective communicator and change agent;
  • Results oriented, transportation professional that understands the transportation marketplace across all modes and has a working knowledge of transportation contracts and their terms and conditions.
  • Experience managing all in all modes of transportation with emphasis in LTL, parcel, specialty courier, and truckload.
