Student Information Systems, a critical functional area to complete in our SaaS footprint for Higher Education, is one top investment priority for Oracle.
We are looking for a technically hands-on Senior Manager of Applications Development with passion for innovation, solving difficult problems, and developing the next generation of Student Information System in the cloud. This position will be responsible for designing and building innovative new systems using industry standard web technologies. These are exciting times in our space - we are growing fast and working on ambitious new initiatives.
In this position, you will own and lead our rapidly growing development team in Mexico and be responsible for development of Oracle’s Student Cloud product. Student Cloud provides enterprise scale functionality that supports both the back office college/university administrator (eg. setting up a course catalog or managing admissions applications) as well as the students themselves (eg. enrolling in classes or paying tuition).
This position will be responsible for:
- Managing and leading a world class development team
- Leading one or more Agile scrum teams (as scrum master) to deliver large-scale customer-facing projects on-time with high quality
- Guiding and mentoring developers in day-to-day design and coding tasks
- Working closely with the Leadership team, Product Managers, Architects, Quality Assurance, User Experience, and other development teams within Oracle
- Growing the team by recruiting and hiring top talent
The ideal candidate has the following profile:
- At least 6-8 years of prior management and/or team leadership experience
- A high level of energy and initiative, with the ability to lead virtual teams and partner across organizational boundaries to influence development direction
- Experience driving Agile development projects in a fast paced environment
- Ability to motivate, grow, and guide junior and senior developers
- Ability to work independently to solve problems and is willing to do what it takes to get things done
- Experience building relationships and influence outside of authority while leveraging Oracle expertise and resources
- Effective communication skills (written and spoken), including explaining technical details as well as escalating blockers
- Experience with technologies such as Java server side frameworks, modern JavaScript frameworks/libraries, TypeScript, REST services, SQL, and Oracle Database
- Experience with unit testing and functional automation using frameworks such as JUnit, Jasmine, Mocha, and Selenium
- BS or MS in computer science or equivalent
Desirable qualifications for this position include:
- Knowledge of Oracle Application Development Framework (ADF) and Oracle JavaScript Extension Toolkit (JET)
- Experience with web accessibility techniques and testing tools
- Experience with REST and/or data model design
- Experience with SaaS applications or cloud technologies/deployments
- Experience with continuous delivery, deployment, and monitoring of cloud based services
Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.
As a manager of the software engineering division, you will apply your knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and suggest improvements to the architecture.
Manages and controls activities in multi-functional areas of sections. Ensures appropriate operational planning is effectively executed to meet Corporate specifications. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
