Department Description

Compute Substrate of OCI - We are Cloud builders. Compute is the core organization within OCI. We are responsible for providing the Compute hosts that power the Cloud. The Compute Substrate organization comprises of a family of critical foundational infrastructure services that drive OCI’s hardware lifecycle activities (Provision, Repair, Monitor, Recycle). Compute Substrate needs strong engineers that will be responsible for owning, operating, improving and optimizing the core services that make up OCI Compute.  Join a diverse, distributed, and collaborative team to take on this challenge!

Responsibilities

We’re looking for hands-on engineers with a passion in solving difficult problems in distributed systems, virtualized infrastructure, and highly available services. An engineer at any level can have significant technical and business impact. Solve complex problems related to infrastructure cloud services, build automation and optimize cloud service implementations to prevent problem recurrence.  You should have expertise with scripting and Python or Java, proficiency with distributed systems, be able to dive deep into any part of the stack and low level systems, lead others, and become an expert in broad distributed system interactions. Participate in Incident Management, Change and Problem Management, On call support, System & Ops Optimization, Security & Patching, Runbook & Automation, Region Build & Releases.

Qualifications

BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding or equivalent practical experience
8+ years of Dev/DevOps/SRE experience with large scale, highly available distributed systems
Expertise with Linux operating systems and Linux system administration
Expertise with Linux/Python/BASH/Java
Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
Systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, strong ownership and drive
Deep understanding of service metrics and alarms through the development of dashboards, service KPIs, alarming systems
Strong experience working in an operational environment with mission critical tier one services with associated oncall duty
Propose, scope, design and direct automation, optimizations, and enhancements
Mentor junior engineers
Open for on-call support & rotation

Desirable Qualifications

Proficiency with Cloud and CICD environments
Proficiency with hardware troubleshooting, BIOS/ILOM
Proficiency with Terraform, Docker
Proficiency with build tools and pipelines (e.g. TeamCity, Maven, make)
Proficiency building multi-tenant, virtualized infrastructure
Proficiency with change control management and mature operating processes
