Job Description

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure is seeking aCritical Facilities Controls Engineer for our facilities in Ashburn, VA.  If you are familiar with how the technology industry has evolved in the last decade, you will know that everybody’s cloud has to live somewhere.  In 2020, Oracle is a leader in every layer of the cloud; Iaas, PaaS, SaaS as well as hosting our own corporate infrastructure.  Our Ashburn facilities are critical assets and we are seeking a local engineer with expertise in administrating and performing maintenance in mission critical environments.  If you have exceptional attention to detail, superior technical expertise, and a desire to grow and develop your professional skills within a challenging and complex environment, we are looking for you!

TITLE DEFINITION

This individual will report to the Manager, Data Center Engineering and will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the site’s Oracle owned mission critical facilities infrastructure.  This engineer will coordinate with colocation service providers to ensure the continuous availability of the power and cooling in the data center.  Systems under the cognizance of this engineer include but are not limited to: low voltage bus rails, remote power panels, airflow containment systems, computer room air handlers, and leak detection systems.  This individual will support the safe and timely deployment of racks at data center, ensure the colocation provider executes maintenance and service in accordance with contract terms, and ensure that all work conducted at the site is approved through Oracle change management.

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:         

  • Associates degree or higher in a technical discipline
  • At least 5 years of experience in installation and maintenance of instrumentation and control systems, such as:
    • Commercial HVAC building management systems
    • Electrical power management systems
    • Industrial distributed controls systems

 

REQUIREMENTS

Technical/Functional

  • Read and utilize electrical schematics and network riser diagrams
  • Interpret and critique equipment sequences of operation
  • Lead energy efficiency improvement efforts at the site
  • Configure and deploy metering devices, controllers, and sensors for environmental monitoring systems
  • Review MOPs and SOPs from the colocation provider for accuracy, safety, and to assess the potential for business impact
  • Oversee maintenance activities performed by contractors to ensure they are conducted safely and correctly
  • Ensure Oracle change management policies are adhered to by the colocation provider
  • Safely utilize electrical test and measurement equipment within and in the vicinity of energized gear
  • Support an on-call rotation of site engineers who can respond to engineering incidents within half an hour
  • Oversee installation of electrical and cooling infrastructure in support of new racks

 

Administrative

  • Review reports submitted by service providers for accuracy and completeness
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management systems to schedule and track completion of preventive and corrective work items
  • Draft scopes of work and requests for proposal for vendors and service providers
  • Provide frequent reports on key performance indicators pertaining to space, power, and availiability

 

Compliance

  • Obtain required approvals from Oracle change management to conduct work within the data center
  • Observe Oracle Cloud Infrastructure business courtesy guidelines as well as supplier guidelines
  • Observe Oracle Cloud Infrastructure EH&S guidelines
  • Perform periodic required training
  • Support LOB business process audits (SOC, ISO, Fed Ramp, etc.)
  • Periodically review and modify audit controls and narratives for systems under your cognizance

  • Present evidence during audits to demonstrate that maintenance programs meet compliance
  • Inspire confidence in the reliability of our designs, our disciplined approach to plant operations, and in the effectiveness of our maintenance programs

Provide building and office management services for economy of operation and maximum usage of facilities and equipment. Work with external vendors to develop and implement facilities plans. Review vendor contracts, onsite vendor performance, timely work order completion, and construction related activities. Participate in collaborative space planning efforts with internal resources and user groups. Prepare and monitor annual property budget and other related costs in facility planning. This position will interface with both senior management as well as individual contributors.

As a member of our Real Estate and Facilities team, you will assist the building or office manager in all aspects of daily operations. This may include managing Oracle's office space and equipment. Ensure adherence to company guidelines, processes and building and safety codes. Obtain, review and estimate design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, and preparation. Prepare annual budget. Conduct benchmarking.

Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. May have project lead role. Applies professional, technical, and operational depth and experience to continuously improve service quality. Good communication skills and familiarity with email and MS Office applications is essential. After hours contact for facilities emergencies, accessible via phone or pager. Degree, relevant certification or equivalent with 8 years prior facilities management or assistant property manager experience preferred.
