Department Description
PeopleSoft HCM Development Payroll for North America team is responsible for delivering new features and supporting our customers on various releases of PeopleSoft HCM. This applications engineer position will focus on supporting key PeopleSoft HCM projects and initiatives for primarily the United States and Canada.

Work as part of a team that provides outstanding applications for North American payroll customers which ensure processing accurate payroll results and provide reporting capabilities for the end processes by utilizing your excellent COBOL and other technical skills along with your passion for detail and processes.
Detailed Description
As a member of the software engineering division, you will provide high-level solutions through your analytical and technical skills to our customers based on provided external specifications. Analyze information to define product solutions utilizing basic understanding of Payroll functionality and technical solutions. Specify, design and implement minor changes to existing software architecture. Build highly complex enhancements and resolve complex bugs utilizing your COBOL and other technology skills based on best practices utilized by PeopleSoft coding standards. Unit Test your code and package based on our PeopleSoft delivery methodologies. Review/create product documentation and collateral. Ensure successful product releases based on corporate priorities.
Job Responsibilities
Deliver high quality code utilizing strong technical skills to our Payroll customers:
- Follow the Agile methodology within assigned Scrum team.
- Understand the requirements for modifications to be made in the software.
- Using your strong technical skills, including exceptional COBOL along with SQR, SQL, XML and PeopleSoft proprietary development tools to modify the code based on the requirements.
- Advanced technical knowledge in software development methodologies, design and implementation.
- Ability to apply programming tools, languages and algorithms to solve complex product challenges and problems.
- Expert analytical and design skills at a multi-product level/multi-environmental level.
- Advance research and analysis, project planning and implementation.
- Follow the processes that are defined for delivery of the product code.
- Partner with product owners to meet customer requirements based on priorities defined by the product owners.
- Partner with the quality assurance team to produce quality product and consistency across the payroll product.
- Partner with the global support team and other extended teams in communicating with and resolving the customer reported issues. Able to handle incidents escalated by customers on a priority basis.
- Some interaction with other groups requires effective teamwork with other teams within Development and across Oracle.
Qualifications
- BS or MS degree or equivalent experience in software development.
- Strong written and verbal English skills.
- Requires 6+ years working with COBOL, SQL, SQR, XML and other development tools, with excellent COBOL and SQL coding skills.
- Expert knowledge of relational database applications and SQL.
- A strong commitment to deliver quality results and exceptional customer service.
- Thrive on challenges and changes.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to details.
- Ability to write top level architecture and other technical documents.
- At least 2+ years working on projects of high conceptual complexity.
- Functional knowledge of PeopleSoft HCM Payroll applications (including Payroll for North America and Global Payroll) is highly desirable.
- Ability to work in an environment that has periods of high demand and within the priorities that are set.
- Experience working in large organizations.
- End to end knowledge of software development cycle.

- Functional knowledge of HRMS applications highly desirable.
As a member of the software engineering division, you will perform high-level design based on provided external specifications. Specify, design and implement minor changes to existing software architecture. Build highly complex enhancements and resolve complex bugs. Build and execute unit tests and unit plans. Review integration and regression test plans created by QA. Communicate with QA and porting engineering as necessary to discuss minor changes to product functionality and to ensure quality and consistency across specific products.
Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
