Sourcing Manager
MAJOR FUNCTION
The L’Oréal Tech Incubator is looking for an ambitious and entrepreneurial Sourcing Manager to lead global contract negotiations with a diverse portfolio of external partners on some of the most exciting projects in the entire beauty industry. Working closely with a global cross-functional team of project managers, engineers, scientists and designers, the Sourcing Manager is tasked with creating and sustaining strategic vendor partnerships to best execute the project plan.
The Sourcing Manager will interface with the project teams on a day-to-day basis to ensure the projects needs are captured in Statements of Work with external partners and track vendor work against contract. Additionally, the Sourcing Manager will interface with the worldwide L’Oreal Purchasing group to ensure all agreements meet company wide standards of financial, legal, and ethical requirements.
L’Oréal’s Tech Incubator is responsible for delivering entirely new categories of products and business models to the cosmetics space, often with a focus on new technology. The Tech Incubator is a global cross-functional team of engineers, technologists, formulators, designers and business leads with Hub offices in the US, Europe and Asia and works across all of L’Oréal’s brands and divisions to bring exciting new products and experiences to market.
Position requires occasional domestic and international travel (10-20%)
Specific job responsibilities include:
- Working with project teams to create fully executable SOWs (Statements of Work) and engagement contracts with clear deliverables
- Working with project teams to select the best external partners to fit wider sourcing strategy
- When project needs dictate, sourcing and screening ODM partners
- Managing relationships of vendors in current portfolio and cultivating new relationships
- Finding new vendors to broaden Tech Incubator partner portfolio when needed
- Auditing current vendors in Tech Incubator portfolio, aligning Incubator needs with wider L’Oreal group for greatest purchasing power
- Creation of improved SoW (Statement of Work) templates for a variety of vendor engagements (Manufacturing, Engineering Design, Industrial Design and others)
- Develop a strong partnership with the wider L’Oreal Purchasing and Legal groups
Desired Skills and Experience
- 5+ years experience as GSM (Global Supply Manager), Sourcing, or Vendor Portfolio Management role; BS or Masters in Engineering preferred; MBA preferred
- Experience in sourcing Consumer Electronics, Consumer Products, Medical device or other consumer-facing fields
- Experience in working with vendors both domestically (US) and internationally (Asia, Europe)
- Deep knowledge and experience with strategic contract negotiations to hold vendors accountable for timelines and deliverables
- Experience in sourcing consumer projects at high volume (>100k units/year) and professional products at lower volumes (<10K units year) a plus
- Extensive network of vendors and relationships relevant to consumer and/or medical hardware systems
- Experience negotiating contracts covering a variety of Statements of Work a plus (Engineering Design, Industrial Design, Technology Explorations, Manufacturing agreements, etc)
- Strong business understanding and ability to distill financials for wider group
- Demonstrated passion for highly refined user experiences
- Excellent presentation skills, including slide deck creation, public speaking, and fielding questions on the fly
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interface with team members with both technical and marketing backgrounds; focus on presenting technical information in a manner that facilitates decision making
- Excellent organizational skills
