Summary:As the Cloud Operations Engineer you will be part of a Global Cloud Operations team, responsible for maintaining Cloud Infrastructure, deploying NetSuite Application in a large scale, high-performance, mission-critical production and development environment. This person must be a problem solver, results oriented, capable of troubleshooting and debugging complex problems, able to quickly diagnose problems in a fast moving, pressure filled environment. Strong communication skills are as important as strong technical skills.
This person should be highly motivated and be ready to work in a highly-collaborative, team-oriented environment. Willingness and readiness to help out in areas outside their comfort zone when necessary are essential.
Responsibilities:
- Be part of a global team responsible for maintaining Cloud Infrastructure as well as supporting product releases of NetSuite application code.
- Plan and execute changes to OS, system patching, services, databases, applications, servers, storage and backups in Production data center as well as development environments.
- Demonstrate ability to learn new technologies and tools.
- Participate with a Global team in an on-call rotation (including weekends) to support a 24x7/365 production environment.
- Engineer/assist in developing solutions aligned with Security, Uptime and Performance.
- Troubleshoot issues relating to change implementation.
- Execute NetSuite application release-deployment procedures into multiple, geographically dispersed datacenters (including database migrations).
- Participate in change management/planning meetings with cross functional stakeholders.
- Participate in Root Cause Analysis and continuous improvements initiatives.
- Work with cross-functional teams to ensure all release-milestones are met.
- You will also have opportunities to put on your developer hat for scripting and automation projects to optimize our release-deployment and Cloud Infrastructure maintenance processes.
- Other responsibilities may include: Managing HW life-cycle, OS provisioning, overseeing scalability and performance tuning, executing backup/restore procedures, disaster recovery, documenting procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience.
- 2+ years of professional experience working in a large-scale production environment.
- Should be comfortable to perform typical Linux System Administration tasks such as: patching, auditing, troubleshooting, rolling out major cloud infrastructure changes.
- Basic automation experience with shell scripting, Python or similar. At minimal must be able to read/understand bash scripts.
- Some experience with orchestration and remote execution frameworks.
- Must have basic understanding and some experience using a source control system (Perforce, Git)
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced, agile team environment.
- Ability to produce quality work on tight schedules.
- Ability to solve problems, make sound decisions and use good judgement.
- Must be able to provide on-call support on rotation schedule.
- A passion for automation and continuous improvements.
- Build/Release experience of Java-based, on-demand applications.
- Familiar with SDLC and with CI/Deployment methodologies and automation tools frameworks (Jenkins, Ansible, etc.).
- Basic knowledge of Java, SQL, Oracle.
- Self-motivated, capable of working independently when needed.
Perform performance trend analysis and manage the server/network capacity. React to potential problems using automation, scheduling, and monitoring tools -- escalating to management where appropriate. Participate in configuration and implement technical solutions to enhance and/or troubleshoot the system. Responsible for support documentation as well.
Duties and tasks are standard with some variation. Completes own role largely independently within defined policies and procedures. 2-4 years of related experience in a medium to large network distributed and computing environment. BS in Computer Science or related field.
