Responsibilities:
In This Role, You Will
As a Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE), you will be the technical expert for all assembly-related problems. You will be responsible for defining and implementing excellent DFx practices for our product. You will be the main interface between the Hardware and Product Design Engineering teams, our Product Operations teams within Lab126, our CM partners and fixture/equipment suppliers.
· Work with the Design Engineering teams to identify, mitigate and escalate assembly challenges by enforcing DFA (Assembly), DFSS (Six Sigma) and DFM (Manufacturing) principles.
· Provide feedback for design for assembly.
· Use statistical tools for process data analysis.
· Use DFSS principles to evaluate the product design and fixture designs.
· Investigate and introduce new assembly technology and methodologies to enhance product quality and production efficiencies
· Engage the cross functional team and other partners at the right time to de-risk the NUDD activities
· Establish assembly performance targets (including but not limited to FPY, cycle time) and drive goals to exceed previously achieved goals
· Develop assembly processes, fixtures and equipment for the NPI xVT line, including defining fixture requirements, critical dimensions on parts and critical requirements in the assembly process.
· Leads and ensures line readiness prior to xVT builds: including fixture and process qualification.
· Support prototype builds, including SOP, fixture and process validation, issue identification and resolution.
· Manage in-build validation activities for end to end assembly FATP process
· Develops and manages schedule to ensure timely completion of MDE activities to set up and optimize FATP NPI processes
· Drive all factory-related operational issues related to subassembly and final assembly processes during pre-production builds; ensure effective closure of assembly -related issues to enable the operational success of launching new products.
· Work within the Product Operations, Hardware and Product Design Engineering departments to implement and optimize assembly first pass yields from prototype through product ramp.
· Support cost reduction and sustaining activities.
· Bridge the gap from our Contract Manufacturer to Lab126 by supporting development builds and mass production.
· Travel to Contract Manufacturers to install automation lines. Travel can be up to 25% yearly.
· Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.
· Exceptional influencing and negotiation skills.
· Work independently and ensure timely and accurate communication between the Amazon internal team and our OEM partners.
