Job Description

The Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) team is building the next generation IaaS cloud and cloud support experience to go with it!

We are looking for an upbeat, customer-focused Site Reliability Engineer to join a team to build a world-first and outstanding customer experience by blending sys admin, incident commander, and NOC engineer subject areas. You will be part of a team that learns deeply how our cloud platform works so you can be the bridge between Engineering and Operations. As part of the broader engineering organization, you will act as the voice of the customer to influence product features and plans to improve customer experience. This role is integral to our customer relationships' success and is essential to the platform's success!

Detailed Description and Job Requirement

Solve sophisticated problems related to infrastructure cloud services and build automation to prevent problem recurrence. Design, write, and deploy software to improve the availability, scalability, and efficiency of Oracle products and services. Design and develop designs, architectures, standards, and methods for large-scale distributed systems. Facilitate service capacity planning and demand forecasting, software performance analysis, and system tuning.

Work with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team on the shared full stack ownership of a collection of services and/or technology areas. Understand the end-to-end configuration, technical dependencies, and overall behavioral characteristics of production services. Responsible for the design and delivery of the critical stack, with focus on security, resiliency, scale, and performance. Authority for end-to-end performance and operability. Partner with development teams in defining and implementing improvements in service architecture. Articulate technical characteristics of services and technology areas and guide Development Teams to engineer and add world-class capabilities to the Oracle Cloud service portfolio. Understand and communicate the scale, capacity, security, performance attributes, and requirements of the service and technology stack. Demonstrate clear understanding of automation and orchestration principles. Act as ultimate escalation point for sophisticated or critical issues that have not yet been detailed as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Utilize a deep understanding of service topology and their dependencies required to troubleshoot issues and define mitigations. Understand and explain the affect of product architecture decisions on distributed systems. Professional curiosity and a desire to a develop deep understanding of services and technologies.

Job Responsibilities

  • Act as lead/mentor for Tier 1 Operators.
  • Act as a point of escalation for incidents and other issues arising within the region.
  • Operates and performs maintenance to services running within the region.
  • Deploys code and executes other changes within the region.
  • Troubleshoots operational matters on behalf of service teams.
  • Ensures timely resolution and documentation of incidents through bridges.
  • Provides detailed documentation of incidents through company-standard reporting methods.
  • Supervises the region for faults, alarms, and other errors. Advises internal teams as the need arises through process and procedure.

Requirements

  • Ability to maintain a US Government Top Secret security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or another technical field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 years' experience of running large scale customer-facing web services.
  • Experience with Linux.
  • Experience deploying code within change management procedures.
  • Experience participating in or running incident bridges.
  • Experience troubleshooting sophisticated software and/or networking issues.
  • Strong understanding of cloud concepts and platforms.
  • Experience in cloud technical support, operations, NOC, or similar is helpful, but not required.
  • Proven track record to quickly learn new technical domains and then train others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
