Summary of Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Finance & Business Support, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Coordinate the effective and efficient operation of Payroll by ensuring company standards, federal and provincial statutory regulations, internal controls and the Collective Agreement are adhered to.
Prepare and administer bi-weekly payroll in a timely manner, while auditing payroll processing reports for accuracy.
Prepare daily payroll reports to key departments for payroll editing.
Act as the Labour Management system champion for the hotel and prepare and distribute weekly variance reports and monthly labour forecast worksheets.
Reconcile payroll data to the time and attendance system.
Manage vacation entitlements and accruals in accordance with GAAP, the Collective Agreement and Company vacation policy.
Ensure payroll system is running effectively and efficiently. Maintain detailed records and documentation of payroll functions for audit purposes in accordance with statutory requirements.
Prepare payroll journal entries for month-end processing.
Prepare balance sheet reconciliations related to all payroll and benefit accounts.
Facilitate training across all departments on Time & Attendance software, daily timekeeping practices and general payroll matters.
Administer records of employment, T4s and tax and deduction remittances.
Assist with payroll queries from employees and managers.
Respond to government inquiries in a timely and accurate manner. (Including, but not limited to CRA, Stats Canada, WCB, etc.)
Act as accounting supervisor when required
Perform other duties as assigned
Maintain a safe working environment.
Participate in leadership functions/capacities as required.
Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years previous payroll experience
Completed or working towards Canadian Payroll Association PCP certification or diploma in Accounting, Business or Finance will be an asset
Previous payroll experience in a hotel environment is considered a strong asset
Ability to train, communicate and follow up with hotel leadership on payroll related issues
Previous experience with Time & Attendance, Ceridian (Dayforce) and/or automated labour management system is preferred
Experience working in a unionized environment preferred
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office including Microsoft Excel
Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy and organization
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to handle confidential information in an ethical and professional manner
Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to):
Frequent sitting throughout shift
Occasional lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs
Occasional kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
Visa Requirements: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
