Principal MPE is technical expert within the Product Engineering organization, focusing on technical areas including material selection, tooling and molding, secondary manufacturing processes, finishes and decorations, and other emerging technologies. They export this knowledge across the organization to not only develop others, but influence technical decision making and long term technology investments.

Through product level DFX reviews, Principal MPE provide feedback on design and manufacturability, performance, and scalability vulnerabilities for the most complex projects. They are experts in taking complex manufacturing problems and reducing them into straightforward solutions to ensure business success across Amazon. They provide technical leadership on organization wide technical issues, and provide support within and outside their area of expertise. They are a pragmatic problem solvers, and apply their judgment and experience to balance trade-offs between competing interests. They set standards for engineering excellence, and simplify processes and technologies while driving best practices across teams effectively. They play a significant role in the career development of others, actively mentoring and educating the larger hardware development community on trends, technologies, and best practices.

They are the key influencer in Product Engineering’s technology strategy, and contribute significantly to the technical development of the organization. They are the technology owners who continually drive towards cutting edge emerging manufacturing processes, and assess these technologies for potential impact to current and future roadmap needs. While much of their efforts may be local, they understand technologies globally, and build relationships worldwide to ensure Amazon has access to cutting edge developments.

The Role:
· Identify and develop technology strategy for Product Engineering organization
· Owner of developing cutting edge emerging manufacturing processes.
· Participant and influence technical decision making and long term technology investments
· Provide feedback on design and manufacturability, performance, and scalability vulnerabilities for the most complex projects
· Develop supplier process capability through continuous engagement and engineering studies
· Drive technical issue resolution for complex issue
· Mentor and develop junior engineers
· Travel domestically and internationally as projects require
