Principal Test Engineer (Java Cloud Service)

The Java Platform Group is looking for an experienced, passionate, and highly motivated Test Engineer to join our world class development efforts. Our team is responsible for delivering and testing the Java Management Service (JMS) in the cloud that is used by millions of developers. We are looking for a seasoned engineer with a strong Java programming background, cloud service development and testing experience and a desire to make a positive change in our product.

Java Management Service (JMS), now generally available (GA), is a new Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) native service to help manage Java runtimes and applications on-premises or on any cloud. JMS offers a single pane of glass to manage Java deployments across the enterprise. It provides continuous insight based on telemetry data from the JVM to analyze security, performance, compliance, and efficiency metrics.

Our goal is to have engineers writing well designed, robust, reliable, repeatable, and maintainable tests that find issues early and provide adequate coverage for the component under testing. The primary focus for this position will be on Java Platform installation and management as a cloud service, cloud security and scalability testing and verification.

Responsibilities

• You will be expected to work with a wide range of features and component teams in order to drive quality of Java Management Service
• Create the next generation of testing tools, techniques, and infrastructure to increase the speed of release cycles
• Work closely with engineering teams to understand new technologies, design and develop functional test suite to ensure the quality of the product
• Have a good understanding of developing tests in Java for functional, regression tests as well as concept of Canary testing and cloud deployment techniques
• Ensuring timely software releases by improving efficiency, productivity, and consistency of testing

 

Requirements

• BS in a technical discipline. MS desirable. At least 8 years’ experience in software development or testing
• Strong Java programming background; Java Certified Developer and/or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Developer is highly desired
• Hands on experience with using Selenium framework or others, Ansible, Python or JavaScript is preferred
• Experience with cloud scalability testing techniques and tools and hands on experience with Dynamic and Static analysis tools such as Fortify, Spotbugs, Webscan will be a plus
• Working experience on Linux/Unix/Windows/macOS
• Extensive test and troubleshooting experience especially in cloud infrastructure
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Motivated and results oriented individual
• Ability to thrive and grow in a fast-paced team environment
• Ability to conceive, plan, implement, and collaborate with distributed teams on process improvements and productivity enhancement tools is a plus, not required

As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. You will be responsible for defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.

Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.

Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will assist in defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, debugging or designing of software applications or operating systems. Provide technical leadership to other software developers. Specify, design and implement modest changes to existing software architecture to meet changing needs.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
