Position Summary:

  • Ensures that consumable materials are available for all operations by analyzing current and forecasted material usage and projecting inventory availability across the supply chain
  • Formulates recommendations that ensure continuity of supply and communicating those recommendations with all key personnel involved with the repackaging, distribution, storage and shipping of the materials
  • Monitors inventory levels of various materials and performs calculations necessary that support appropriate action to ensure that materials are appropriately stocked
  • Analyze supply material levels and trigger manual shipments as required
  • Create a kanban system for all consumable items to maintain optimal inventory level to ensure continued availability of materials
  • Must be able to coordinate and conduct physical count of materials at specified frequency throughout the year
  • Must be able to develop a system to organize all the materials properly across 3 sites so as to maintain control of data
  • Acts as back up for other members of the supply chain team
  • Support and drive continuous improvement throughout the business through the use of Thermo Practical Process Improvement (PPI) methodologies
  • Drive improvements to Customer Allegiance Scores by procuring material on-time and proactively identifying any material availability issues
  • Actively maintain the (electronic) Kanban system to ensure material flow, demand pull, and minimization of replenishment lead time
  • Proactively identify areas for improvement in the supply base by identifying performance or quality issues within the supply base and coordinate with Strategic Sourcing representatives to drive improvement or resourcing actions
  • Work under the day to day direction of the Purchasing Manager while taking direction and guidance from the commodity leads and other functional managers for continued improvement of the supply chain.
  • Maintain regular communication with suppliers to ensure high levels of on-time delivery, system data integrity, and ordering parameters for individual materials
  • Train employees on the operations of the kanban based consumables system


Job Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in supply chain in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in implementation of lean manufacturing and other world class manufacturing/purchasing practices
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow through on tasks to completion
  • High degree of initiative
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Ability to ensure accuracy of data vs. physical inventory at all times

Minimum Qualifications (must have):

  • Strong analytical / problem solving skills and process focus, including data analytics skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, to direct and motivate team to meet business objectives
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal skills, and unquestioned integrity and trust

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • This position may require high visibility in warehouse environment to ensure that department runs optimally and meets customer service levels. While not in warehouse this position will have an office area where computer and telephone work will be required.
  • Required to wear ASTM F 2413-05 (or ANSI Z41-1999) safety shoes while working in the warehouse.
