Do you want to work in the intersection of security and program analysis with some machine learning thrown in? Then Oracle Labs, Australia has an exciting opening for a researcher. We, at Oracle Labs, Brisbane, are working on Intelligent Application Security. We are investigating techniques that provide an automated approach that integrates security into all aspects of application development, testing, deployment and operations. This is done using program analysis and synthesis techniques that incorporate signals from the code and beyond (e.g., public sources like CVE information, GitHub) in databases), to provide actionable intelligence to developers, security analysts, operations staff, and autonomous systems.  

The successful candidate will work on leveraging outputs related to security vulnerabilities from static analysis and generate recommendations to fix the relevant vulnerabilities. This could involve enhancing the existing analyses, developing new analyses, performing program synthesis etc. They will work with others who are experts in application security and program analysis.  

This is a full-time position. The successful candidate will be based in Brisbane where the Intelligent Application Security team is located.

What will you bring to the job?

• A PhD (or soon to be awarded) in any relevant area of program analysis (or similar) evidenced by an excellent track record such as high-quality publications
• Passion to conduct applied research including creating research prototypes/artifacts
• Knowledge of topics relevant to program repair
• Interest in improving security of applications
• Demonstrable problem solving skills via automation
• Demonstrable capacity to work independently and collaboratively
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Eligibility to work in Australia without sponsorship.

• Good knowledge of C++ and Java
• Good knowledge of CI/CD process
• Good software engineering skills
