Department Description

Compute Substrate of OCI - We are Cloud builders. Compute is the core organization within OCI. We are responsible for providing the Compute hosts that power the Cloud. The Compute Substrate organization comprises of a family of critical foundational infrastructure services that drive OCI’s hardware lifecycle activities (Provision, Repair, Monitor, Recycle). Compute Substrate needs strong engineers that will be responsible for owning, operating, improving and optimizing the core services that make up OCI Compute.  Join a diverse, distributed, and collaborative team to take on this challenge!

Responsibilities

We’re looking for hands-on engineers with a passion in solving difficult problems in distributed systems, virtualized infrastructure, and highly available services. An engineer at any level can have significant technical and business impact. Solve complex problems related to infrastructure cloud services, build automation and optimize cloud service implementations to prevent problem recurrence.  You should have experience with scripting and Python or Java, have exposure to distributed systems, be able to dive deep with senior engineers into any part of the stack and low level systems, as well as understand broad distributed system interactions. Participate in Incident Management, Change and Problem Management, On call support, System & Ops Optimization, Security & Patching, Runbook & Automation, Region Build & Releases.

Qualifications

BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding or equivalent practical experience
1-4 years of experience with large scale, highly available distributed systems
1-2 years of Dev/DevOps/SRE experience
Experience with Linux/Python/BASH/Java
Basic troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
Systematic problem-solving approach, strong communication skills, a sense of ownership and drive
Exposure debugging complex problems
Exposure to large-scale production systems
Hands-on experience using source control (Git, GitHub) and feature branching strategies
Open for on-call support & rotation

Desirable Qualifications

Exposure to Cloud environment Experience in CICD environments
Exposure to hardware troubleshooting, BIOS/ILOM
Working experience on Terraform, Docker
Experience with build tools and pipelines (e.g. TeamCity, Maven, make)
Exposure to multi-tenant, virtualized infrastructure
Exposure to change control management and mature operating processes
Exposure to service metrics and alarms through dashboards, service KPIs, alarming systems

Design, develop, troubleshoot and debug software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will apply basic to intermediate knowledge of software architecture to perform software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications or operating systems according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and occasionally suggest improvements to the architecture.

Duties and tasks are standard with some variation; displays understanding of roles, processes and procedures. Performs moderately complex problem solving with assistance and guidance in understanding and applying company policies and processes. BS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 1 year of software engineering or related experience.
