The role
========
A Principal Oracle Database Engineer position is available in the 3rd party open source libraries project Open Source Intelligence (OSInt). OSInt is a big data analytics project that aims to gather information that is relevant for software security from various sources on the internet, such as National Vulnerability Database (NVD), Exploit DB, GitHub, etc., and transform it into valuable and actionable security intelligence for end users.

The successful candidate will perform technical work in the area of Oracle database to support the team with various big data analytics pipelines that generate data to be stored into the database.  The main focus is on the development of a stable and robust database infrastructure, that can scale to handle more than a million repositories/library updates on a daily basis. OSInt systematically collects and process (extract, transform and load) large volumes of data, in the range of terabytes, from a variety of sources to gather relevant and actionable information for end users through building a security knowledge graph.


Selection criteria
==================
Essential criteria
- 10 years of professional experience in industry;
- Demonstrable solid experience in Oracle database, database schema, SQL, database optimisation;
- Demonstrable strong scripting skills in Python;
- Ability to build and maintain data processing (ETL) pipelines;
- Ability to integrate and tune for results of Apache Spark;
- Self-starter, can do attitude and track record;
- Demonstrable capacity to work independently and collaboratively;
- Adaptability, flexibility, and the ability to deal with ambiguity associated with working in a research laboratory;
- Eligibility to work in Australia without sponsorship.

Desired criteria
- Experience with big data processing frameworks (e.g. Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, Elasticsearch, etc.);
- Demonstrable knowledge of big data analytics and information retrieval (IR) techniques;
- Experience with NoSQL databases;
- Experience of Java/Scala;
- Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools (e.g., Airflow);
- Excellent communication skills;
- Ability to engage with product organisations.

As a member of the software engineering division, you will take an active role in the definition and evolution of standard practices and procedures. You will be responsible for defining and developing software for tasks associated with the developing, designing and debugging of software applications or operating systems.

Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. Leading contributor individually and as a team member, providing direction and mentoring to others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.!|!
