Director Big Data Platform Engineering

We are looking for an engineering leader who has demonstrated
expertise in distributed systems, big data, Spark internals, Kubernetes and
cloud experience. We are building serverless big data solutions in our
hyperscale environment that require engineers to think out of the box,
hypothesis and try out innovative solutions. These are exciting times in our
space - we are growing fast, still at an early stage, and working on ambitious
new initiatives.
Key Responsibilities\:
- Build
a new big data platform engineering team ground up
- This
team will be responsible for Spark distributions, internals, optimizations,
security, integrations with Kubernetes, Livy, etc.
- Partner
with the Kubernetes team and drive appropriate changes as needed for the
Spark ecosystem
- Partner
with the other big data services teams and provide frameworks and
assistance with the products they are building
- Partner and work across OCI security teams to work on
required security patches, backports for new Spark release patches if
needed
- Evaluate
new Spark version releases and partner with architects and other engineers
for a plan for upgrading
- Be in the forefront working with Apache Spark community
to solve product challenges
- Work on complex problems like autoscaling and autotuning
- Spark performance tuning and optimizations
- Use
of ML and AI as an integrated part of the cloud services to serve
thousands of customers while maintaining a reasonable spend
Minimum Qualifications\:
- BS degree in Computer Science or related field (MS
preferred)
- 3 years of being a manager, leading teams
- 12 years of experience delivering and operating cloud
services or highly distributed business software.
- Strong knowledge of Java, and experience with scripting
languages such as Python, Perl, etc.
- Expert knowledge in Apache Spark – internals, security,
tuning, optimization
- Strong knowledge in Kubernetes
- Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms,
operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals.
- Working familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP,
HTTP) and standard network architectures.

!|!Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.
As a director of the software engineering division, you will apply your extensive knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and envision future improvements to the architecture.
Assists in the development of short, medium, and long term plans to achieve strategic objectives. Regularly interacts across functional areas with senior management or executives to ensure unit objectives are met. Ability to influence thinking or gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 7 years of software engineering or related experience.
