The OCI Virtual Networking & Storage Services team is looking for a Software Engineering Manager with expertise and passion in solving difficult problems in distributed systems, virtualized infrastructure, and highly available services. This is a key role within the OCI Virtual Networking & Storage Services SRE team with a strong emphasis in building solutions that support the delivery of incident and problem management.
Site Reliability Engineers can have near unlimited scope across availability, durability, maintainability, operability, scalability, etc. We are looking for a manager that enables independent engineers who can help us identity and prioritize projects. This means you might focus on new region automation for a period of time, and then transition to focusing on reducing latency for a specific service next. There is a high degree of autonomy required in this role and we are looking for engineering managers who want to help drive our roadmap.
The ideal candidate will be technically strong and get a lot done – you’ve directly worked on services that are highly available, scalable, and redundant. Automation is a core tenant for everything you do. You understand that simple systems are easier to operate and troubleshoot. You can balance speed with iteration and incremental improvements. You’ve made life easier for other developers and have motivated your teams to make both process and service improvements.
Candidates should have broad working knowledge across multiple domains, but we love to see specialization as well. The basics we expect are\: Networking, Linux Systems Engineering, Software Engineering/Automation, and Distributed Systems.
This role will support Oracle’s government customers and experience with these environments is a plus.

As a manager of the software engineering division, you will apply your knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and occasionally suggest improvements to the architecture.
Leads a specialized area which may have diverse functional elements. Frequently interacts with supervisors and/or functional peer group managers. May interact with senior management. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. Typically one year of software engineering or related experience.
