OCI Media Services is an exciting new team working on a suite of OCI-native services in the digital media space. We are building services from the ground up that run the gamut from content transcode and streaming to information extraction and analytics.
As a manager you will own the execution of software design and development for major components of Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure. You should have technical depth, architectural know how, general distributed systems knowledge, be a strong people and process manager. You should have be able to dive deep into any part of the stack and low-level systems. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.
From a technology perspective, this is a greenfield development environment with a huge amount of autonomy, leaving us free to build and innovate without being encumbered by legacy products and services.
Responsibilities
· Provide leadership, direction and strategy
· Identify, recruit and retain strong engineering talent
· Work with members of the team and manage smart engineers doing the design and development of key features needed to make Media Services successful
· Demonstrate expertise in cloud engineering and distributed systems
· Have prior experience in building and delivering world class products
· Work with geographically distributed teams and contribute to the success of his/her and other related teams
· Work with designers and product managers to arrive at a product/service definition and get the definition to an execution plan
· Work with the team and outside to get necessary approvals for the architecture and design for the problem at hand
· Interact with other service leads in OCI, and be able to come up with clear plans on integration with those as needed
Desired Skills and Experience
· 10+ years of experience in software development.
· 3+ Years of experience leading engineering teams.
· BS in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
· 5+ years of experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems.
· 2+ years of cloud experience.
· 2+ years of experience managing a complex software development project and working in a domain of operating a service.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex information in a clear, concise manner to all audiences.
· Results driven; thrives in a development environment that is agile, collaborative, and in start-up mode, even when faced with ambiguity.
· Experience in the digital media space a big plus.
Manage a team that designs, develops, troubleshoots and debugs software programs for databases, applications, tools, networks etc.
As a manager of the software engineering division, you will apply your knowledge of software architecture to manage software development tasks associated with developing, debugging or designing software applications, operating systems and databases according to provided design specifications. Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and suggest improvements to the architecture.
Manages and controls activities in multi-functional areas of sections. Ensures appropriate operational planning is effectively executed to meet Corporate specifications. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
