The OCI Compute team is looking for Sr. Manager of Software Development with expertise and passion in solving difficult problems in distributed systems, virtualized infrastructure, and highly available services. This is a key role within the OCI Compute SRE team with a strong emphasis in building solutions that support the delivery of incident and problem management.
As a Sr. Manager of Software Development you will lead the site reliability engineering and development team, delivering, supporting and automating major components of Oracle’s Cloud Infrastructure.
You should be a distributed systems generalist, able to architect broad systems interactions, while being very hands-on, able to dive deep into any part of the stack and lower level system interactions. You should value simplicity and scale, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and be excited to learn.

Site Reliability Engineers can have near unlimited scope across availability, durability, maintainability, operability, scalability, etc. We are looking for a manager that enables independent engineers who can help us identity and prioritize projects. This means you might focus on new region automation for a period of time, and then transition to focusing on reducing latency for a specific service next. There is a high degree of autonomy required in this role and we are looking for engineers who want to help drive our roadmap.
The ideal candidate will be technically strong and get a lot done – you’ve directly worked on services that are highly available, scalable, and redundant. Automation is a core tenet for everything you do. You understand that simple systems are easier to operate and troubleshoot. You can balance speed with iteration and incremental improvements. You’ve made life easier for other developers and have motivated your teams to make both process and service improvements.
Candidates should have broad working knowledge across multiple domains, but we love to see specialization as well. The basics we expect are: Networking, Linux Systems Engineering, Software Engineering/Automation, and Distributed Systems.
This role will support Oracle’s government customers and experience with these environments is a plus.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Active Top Secret/SCI with polygraph Clearance
- 7+ years experience delivering and operating large scale, highly available distributed systems
- Strong programming experience in at least one high-level language (C++, Java, etc.)
- Proven experience with automation and strong experience in a scripting language (bash, perl, python, etc)
- Solid foundation in Linux administration and troubleshooting
- Solid understanding of Networking, Security and Storage. Working familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and standard network architectures
- Be able to understand and formulate meaningful KPIs and business metrics
- Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills
- Previous management experience leading teams of 5 or more
- Experience building multi-tenant, virtualized infrastructure a strong plus

Build enhancements within an existing software architecture and suggest improvements to the architecture.
- Manages and controls activities in multi-functional areas of sections. Ensures appropriate operational planning is effectively executed to meet Corporate specifications. Demonstrated leadership and people management skills. Strong communication skills, analytical skills, thorough understanding of product development. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of software engineering or related experience.
